the Random Campaign generator?

Post by Phenix »

Hi, if i want to make my own campaign how do i go about that?
in the random campaign generator there are several campaigns to choose from, but how do set the parametres?
Now i just pick one of the available campaigns and play it, but it is not designed by me.
Do you understand my question? i thought we would be able to do more, change more like force composition, what maps we would fight, how many battles and so forth.

Hi Phenix,

I wrote a small, slightly disorganized tutorial about making my own random campaign here. Feel free to ask any questions you might have and I'll do my best to answer them.

Hi Grell, I'm happy to help if I can. One thing worth stressing is that it is really simple to do this if you are careful and you take things one step at a time. Just a bit of practice and you'll get the hang of it even if you don't have much experience with XML. Matrix/Koios should be highly commended for going with open and very flexible formats for practically everything in the game, and I'm sure it will result in lots of community content.
This approach was being debated a few months ago at BF and Steve said there that it would be commercial suicide for them to do so. I don't know how Matrix are doing with this game but it looks like it has been received very well, and rightly so, and I sure hope Steve is proved wrong on this count.

Whiteowl,

It must be a pretty fine line to walk. I can appreciate Steve's concern, and yet the more expectation a game generates for community content, the more attractive it looks to me. I know if Panzer Campaigns delivers on some of the wish list items in the next release, it will be a definite buy for me, So I guess so far, Matrix has threaded the needle just right.

Commercial suicide? Pfah!

A huge reason I bought PCK was because of the Random Generators and the indication that user-created content could easily be in abundance. I didn't buy CMSF because it seemed that user-created content was thrown under the bus. How's that for commercial suicide for him? [:D]

Agreed 100%. Frankly for me (sorry to be OT) it's rather BFC policy that is suicidal. At least for me they just definitely lost one of their former staunchest supporter with their CMx2 approach, that's much.
So thumbs up to Matrix/Koios for the very "open" approach they have, this will make the game better and better, with more and more content.
To be frank again PzCK is somewhat below my expectations (as they were "something like CMBB but better", they were quite high), but the progress since WS is immense already.
