Re: Game Load Time and Delay.

Hi All,

I was really becoming unhappy with turn load times and other delay concerns. I was waiting approximately 2 minutes for an Order Turn to load and about 1 minute each for the subsequent phases to load. I was spending more time waiting for turns to load than playing.[:(]

At the time I had PCWS and PCK loaded as well as the mod manager ( using the flags mod and the newest tracer mod ). In addition the beta update patches.

I uninstalled everything and did fresh installs of the games ( PCWS and PCK ). I have not re-installed the beta patches or the mod manager. Now it works like a charm. 15 seconds to load up order moves and 5 to 10 seconds for each subsequent phase. The panzers are rolling again.[:D]

Oddly I had a very intermittent screen flikering problem that went away somewhere with my first original installs ect ect. With the fresh installs it is back.

I have a AMD Athlon 64 dual 3500 with 2G's Ram and a Geforce 6600 256MB graphics card. I am running WXP Pro with IE7. I will keep PCK running vanilla for a few days to be sure it does not slow down. Then I will gradually install the other components and patches to see if there is an item that might be causing the slow down problems.

Strange, when you say "PCWS and others loaded" you mean really running using RAM ? In this case it's logical that the game slows if RAM is crammed full by tons of proggies. If they were just installed it's really weird, maybe there's a problem with an update, but I can't see why just having other stuff installed should slow down a game..
BTW I play on an old Athlon2400  (w/GF6600 also), and my delay times are up to a couple minutes, but it's a slow old rig, it sure it's weird if you have same delays with a machine at least twice as fast.

Hi PDiFolco,

As Judge has said I meant installed.[:)]

You also wonder why having some items installed my slow a program down. Unfortunately now and again programs do have conflicts. Applications and games are expected to run on many different platforms in combination with different software and settings which is why beta testing is so important.

As I mentioned upon doing a fresh install, without the mod manager, mods, or update patches, it works very well and about 75% faster. So the performance is now where my machine should take it.

Later in the week I will install the latest patch and see if the game slows down or not.

As an observation the amount of requests for tech support are very small considering the game has been available for 2 weeks now. Remarkable actually. Only 39 posts with most of them being resolved very quiclkly.

Regards John
