no, we are playing the same versions, I stockpile some 200 HI points a day, but have shut down 200 merchant points, which means if my industry would run at 100% I would be 1000+ HI points short every day.
[/quote]

Are you playing 9.2 or 9.2b?
The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

where can I see if I play 9.2 or 9.2b?

What I know is that all my new aircraft factories started out at a couple of points only, I´m producing some 130 Zeroes, same number of Helens but ramped up Tojo production to around 200. The rest is perhaps 30 Betties, some Vals and Kates and a couple of float planes. Arm and veh was increased by 100 or so while I also had to increase HI by 250 or so. Still with the result that if I have all merchant and naval shipyard running I would be 1000+ HI short every day.

and now the surprise of this turn! After years of playing WITP and thinking that Cap doesn´t engage LRCAP I see the following. We had Cap over Cairns and I had Tabbies flying in being intercepted by enemy LRCAP. This LRCAP must have been attacked by my Cap as there was no other engagement where I could have taken those enemy fighters down... This means those engagements only don´t show up during the replay but they actually happen...[X(][X(][X(]

Swift sends in a lot of US cruisers and destroyers but the main threat are the British POW and Repulse. We weren´t surprised but Tanaka seemed to be completely caught off guard as POW shot Nagato to pieces and none of my ships responded the enemy salvoes...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat, near Cairns at 47,100

This is when it turned into a disaster...

After the first round I wasn´t pleased at all, the second round really kicked me off my chair. My whole TF is shot to pieces, we nearly don´t fire back, not to talk about the fact that the Allied used more torps than we did. Everything turned out to be not like I would expect it to be. In the WIPT world, the attacking Allied TF is too big, but this time it works like in real life, the more ships, the better. That the British are worthy opponents is nothing new but also the US CAs were killers, clobbering my CAs and DDs. In the end Nagato is sunk, I don´t even get the chance to disband her in the level 6 port of Cairns. This has been the best move of Swift within this campaign, something I didn´t expect and I have to admire total defeat here.

then the Allied SC TF gets a shot at my small AKs and again I see something that isn´t usual in the WITP world: my complete supply convoy get´s shot to pieces... [8|] this completes the catastrophy...

then the Nells attack and finish BC Repulse (not confirmed sunk though). Would have been cool to see my 54 Nells attack the enemy TF LAST turn... but some 40-50 search planes weren´t able to spot this big TF... that´s war...

Swift now has the initiativ in this area for the next couple of turns until another BB TF of mine arrives. All that we have here now are 54 Nells.

I expected to see POW once again to finish off the damaged Mutsu. The BB had 41 sys, 3 flt and 6 fires yesterday. When I saw this cruiser TF show up I thought I could take at least a little revenge but the same thing as yesterday happened: my ships nearly didn´t fire, perhaps we fired 5 salvoes whereas the Allied ships fired 100+ [&:] It really seems that Japanese forces get magically handicapped when fighting near Cairns as all my LCUs got frozen and hit by the movement bug (which is the f*cking reason why I had to do this invasion here - that turns out to be a catastrophy) and my ships seem to be frozen too when the enemy is shooting like wild but we don´t respond at all. and even the enemy airforce attacks my low value supply ships instead of the high value (but capped) BB TF...

like I said, I have to admit total defeat. Swift told me he only expected some merchants at Cairns and was surprised to find my BBs there. That doesn´t make it any better for me, I only get more upset about these f*cking bugs in the game. I really must have a problem with this area around Cairns.

Against Hortlund my Allied invasion TFs exactly here off Cairns get hit by the movement bug and get stuck for over a week, then I cancel the invasion and my TFs moved back one by one after a couple of more days. 90% of my LCUs in this game get hit by the land movement bug exactly in this region. To top it off I get a surface engagement where my ships perform as bad as they could, while the enemy ships perform as good as they could (while this is surely no bug but die rolls absolutely not in my favour). Why then all my TFs get sunk til the last ship is something you rarely see in WITP also.

Oh, forgot to say: Cairns was clouded the whole day and the Nells stay grounded (the spotted cruiser TF 5 hexes away isn´t attacked that way), three hexes further South at Charter Towers the weather is excellent and the enemy bombers take off to clobber another half a dozen ships of mine. That´s WITP live.

Very well done Swift! [&o]

unbelievable! Swift turns out to be really bold as he spotted at least 3 of my 4 BBs at Cairns yesterday and he decides to send in his victorious surface combat TF around POW again. They do a good job sinking two DDs while losing one of their own and CA Indianapolis to a mag explosion. POW mostly was hit by gun fire from the BBs secondary armament while POW scored penetrating 14 inch hits on Fuso. We spotted his TF yesterday but of course my Nells didn´t attack.

next round, this time our second BB TF surprised the enemy and this round clearly goes in our favour. POW is heavily damaged, not sure she will sink though. She made one hex during the day movement phase so she surely is in a very bad state but I have no idea if she´s heavily flooded or if she only has a high sys damage. Those surface combats in the last couple of days showed clearly that I can´t hope to see my forces being clearly superiour during a night engagement. It worked very good for Swift on the first day when his BB/BC shot my BBs to pieces while his CAs also put up an excellent fight concentrating on my CAs and DDs. Though I guess Swift should have retired after the first day and it would have been a glorious victory for him. Now it already looks like it´s becoming a defeat.

this is KB East of Rockhampton! KB left Gili Gili on full speed the first day when BB Nagato was sunk at Cairns to cut off the enemy´s path to attack again. As it looks now, the enemy didn´t retreat to Brisbane but replenished somewhere further North and has now the problem of KB being South of him cutting off his retreat path and my Nells/Betties being at Cairns. Swift has maneuvered his forces into serious trouble now with his decision to go in again to Cairns. Looks like he´s a bit drunk from his earlier victory! [:D] KB starts off with the sinking of another old ML.

This last Bastion in China outside of Chungking has fallen. Resources were 60% damaged, only some 100 are left. China is reduced to Chungking now and I won´t attack that base with 140+ units there at the moment. My 2000 assault points will just sit there, blocking every movement of the Chinese troops. Now it´s time to redeploy my troops for the assault on Russia. Guess there will be some 20.000 assault points marching into Russia, the majority will attack in the South.

Post by castor troy »

The battles around Cairns and down Australia´s East Coast have been bloody and what began as a Japanese defeat turned out to be a glorious victory as Swift became too greedy and decided to send in his BB/CA TF once again, which proved to be one time to much.

15 merchants

damaged:

1 BB
3 CA
6 DD

CA Louisville
CA Astoria
CA Northampton
