New Japanese tactic discovered!

Post by CJ Martin »

Here's a good one.

Marine Raiders and some engineers land on Tugali.

Couple of nights later (base still controlled by Japanese), three IJN TF's show up and run into a newly arrived USN TF of heavy cruisers. Three battles, both side take some losses, turn ends.

The Raiders are gone.

Ran this turn twice, same thing happened. Got a good clue what was happening during the second run through...SBD's from Lunga caught up with one of the retiring TF's at Munda and damaged a couple of ships.

Check out the combat report from that airstrike:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Air attack on TF, near Munda at 31,37

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 6
SBD Dauntless x 24
B-26B Marauder x 9

Japanese Ships
DD Hamakaze, Bomb hits 6, on fire, heavy damage
CL Yubari, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
DD Maikaze, Bomb hits 1, on fire

Allied ground losses:
Men lost 170

Attacking Level Bombers:
4 x B-26B Marauder at 1000 feet
3 x B-26B Marauder at 1000 feet
2 x B-26B Marauder at 1000 feet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think I found my lost Raiders...somehow they are being loaded on the IJN ships.

Save game avalable upon request.

Start the save with you as Japan and see if the are on the boat. I wouldnt be suprised if they are, after all I have Japanese Aircraft stationed at Wewak even though I control the base as Allied and they have no troops. These planes are bombing their own sides ships. Stealing the other sides troops would be no more strange than that.
Sci-fi channel SUCKS.

A japanese evacuation of the beach w of lunga abducted elements of the 41st inf div. I thought it odd that I would suffer ground troop casualties when a japanese vessel sank. The survivors where deposited at a small jap base where they where overwhelmed.

This may be somewhat sililar to a bug I found and sent the game file to matrix. I was loading land units in Townsville Aus. When I completed the choice of units and returned to the TF screen it showed that in addition to the units I requested to load the TF was loading elements of the 1st US Marine Div. which wasn't even in the same theater let alone the same base. I wouldn't be surprised to see those units of yours loading up somewhere in a TF (either US or Jap) in another part of the world. Worst case is that the bug has them being abducted by aliens and they aren't anywhere in the South Pacific anymore. Oh my Toto - this doesn't look like Kansas anymore!

Save Files...

CJ,

If you have a save that duplicates this from a point prior to the Raiders disappearing, please send it to rossm@matrixgames.com along with a brief description (you can just paste in your post). If we can duplicate it here, we'll fix it.

Thanks.

Regards,

Erik,

I do have a save just prior to this happening, and will send it to you tonight once I get home. Thanks for the quick response!

Not a Japanese tactic.

Don't think the Marines surrendered.

Don't think the Marines turned traitor either.

I think they are attempting to capture the ships,
they are Marine Raiders after all.:D
My e-troops don't unload OVER THE BEACH anymore, see:
Amphibious Assault at Kota Bharu
TF 85 troops securing a beachhead at Kota Bharu, 51,75
whew! I still feel better.

Good hiding place for them - no one would ever think to look for them there. And it's true that *everyone* runs when the US bombers show up... ;)
