Supply Unit Ranges

Post by 06 Maestro »

I can't seem to find a supply unit's effective radius. Is it the same as the command range?

I know I crossed this bridge before, but forgot what was on the other side.

Hi,

I'm probably wrong, but I've always thought there were no radii involved, but that the governing factor was always distance from base to receiving unit and the time it took the supply column (motorized, horse drawn, manpacks) to travel the route between the two.

So we're at war with the Russkies eh?? I suppose we really ought to invade or something. (Lonnnng pause while studying the map)

Spot on Rob...took the words right out of my mouth. [:)]

However, you can calculate the optimum range based on the following assumptions/points:
  • You want to be able to make one return trip per day
  • Allow 10 hours rest and maintenance
  • Allow 2-4 hours load and unload
  • This gives you 10-12 hours for travel
  • Divide by two for the return trip and you have 5-6 hours of travel one way.
  • @ 24kph = 120-144kms ( The speed seems low but this is based on dirt tracks, unexpected stoppages etc. On good highways could probably average 36kph )
  • Such vehicles won't be avialable for emergency resupply and only one normal resupply run per day
  • To support two resup runs per day you need to allocate 4-8 hours to load and unload, leaving 6-10 hours traveling time, divide by 4 = 1.5-2.5 hours @ 24kph = 36-60 kph
Given that our max map size is 40 x50 km, your never going to beyond optimum range. Hovaing said that, the closer you are to your base the quicker delivery time for emergency resupply.

I think that is close. I vaguely recall it being said that units will always receive the supplies if; those are available, and there is no interdiction. I just don't remember and can't find it in the rules.
I'm at the tail end of the"Charge of the Centaurs V2"-of course. The operations area is rather large so it crossed my mind whether the distance was the main issue of some units not being kept up on stocks. The shortage of shell is expected-it's used almost as soon as it arrives. Some units are having some problems getting fuel and basics. In some cases it is about 25 K's or more from the SEP-as the crow flies.

So, the question is; what can I do, if anything, to make my supply line run better.

EDIT: OK-thanks for the info-I think I'll remember now.
