he may be goign for Canton

but if he sticks around long, hell run smack into Enterprise, Hornet, and Saratoga

and Halsey, Mitcher, and Bellinger

theyre making flank speed to the area

and ill be sending oilers and AKs loaded with fuel to the area so they can refuel

and it loosk as possibly the naval forces near canton are accompanied by an imperial carrier, so, against Halseys 3, hopefully itll be a slaughter

looks as if PM is about to get a bombardment. all 4 Kongo BBs

by the looks of it its a get in blast the hell outta everythign and get out force

this bombardments gonna hurt [:(]

The fuel convoy from Pearl is underway, and theyre heading for Palmyra, as is an oiler force

realistically its gonna take Halsey and Co at least 2 more days to get within range of Canton, even at flank speed

ive also transferred the old Flying Tigers into Kohima and ordered a strike at Mandalay

should be interesting [:)]

PM Nuked! Canton Falls!

Post by marky »

12 May 1942
Summary:

Well, tiger is certainly aggressive. he brought in the Kongos to nuke PM, and the supplies have dropped almost to zero overnight!! Also, Canton Island has fallen.

China:

Bombardments, and counter marches against Tigs advance continue. There were some air strikes, but they were unopposed by me, since the former Flying Tigers, are at kohima

Central Pacific:

All remains quiet

South Pacific:

Canton Island fell today, and ive ordered Halsey and Co to turn back for Pearl. he must not be allowed to keep Canton, and i shall counter attack ASAP. Also, Lex and York were ordered to sail with their entire force to Pearl, by roundabout course. Canton must be retaken, and then since recon isnt showing much, im gonan try and get sum kinda foothold in the Gilberts. but this will bring me into conflict with KB... thus all of PacFlts carriers will RV and join up. also ive transferred bombers and recon back into Noumea, since they dont do much good elsewhere right now, and in PM its like a switch has been flipped. No recon out of PM, nothing, complete shut down.  2 convoys are also heading for PM, and i hope they get through. ill keep em going as long as i think they can maybe sneak through, the fact is that they have to since i put the 41st div there, and i wont just abandon it, or PM or the Coral Sea to tiger.

RE: Indian AF hits back

Post by marky »

13 May 1942
Summary:

SouthWestPac: PM is still heavily damaged, and im no doubt going to lose a cpl ships getting these convoys in, but the supplies have to get in, or PM has to be evacuated. and that would be more of a disaster. the convoys continue to sail for PM, but i dont hold out much hope that theyll get unloaded before theyre blown off the map.

SoPac: Spruance's carriers have sailed for Pearl, and its a good thing, cuz recon has spotted multiple subs west of Noumea. but how theyre going to get back to Pearl safely, without being spotted, i have no clue. there seems to be alot of naval activity around Canton

CentPac: all quiet, convoys from Midway continue sailing for Pearl

India: Due to the several Iboats in the area and lack of a serious ASW screen, Illustrious has docked at Panaji. the air strikes against Mandalay continue, if only to build up exp for the bomber and fighter squadrons. ive also transferred sum planes to trincomalee on heavy naval serach

China: countermarches continue...

Pearl: preperations continue for the operation against Canton Island, which im calling Operation Pouncing Puma [:D]

Indian AF hits back

Post by marky »

Side note: ive played my fair share of PBEMs, and a few grand campaigns, but ive never played against someone that ive felt truly threatened by. tigercub is the first person to instill that feeling in me. must say its kinda refreshing, not that my other opponents havent been skilled. not only is he aggressive, he doesnt commit peacemeal, and it looks as though tiger is no amateur. from the looks of things hes trying to draw me in several directions at once, and from what recon and intel says he seems to use screens of subs and float planes for recon, and, hes not afraid to send in his battle barges for a good pounding.

will make a very interesting game

All our yesterdays

Post by marky »

14 May 1942
Summary: Very quiet day today, all the action was in China

CentPac: 24th and 25th Divisions loaded onto transport force, bound four Canton. they are not prepared at all, but im trying to help maintain some secrecy. this means heavier losses, but this is a shoestring operation with great risk. also slated to take part are several RCTs from the west coast. also, all carriers will take part in the operation, assuming 2 of them are floating. Fuel convoy continues for Palmyra, along with several oilers, to help bring in Lex and York, who will shortly be bsuy in the SoPac...

China: Bombardments only. phoney war today. several thousand chinese heading for Hanoi, to cause a little chaos.  very quiet, except for the marching minutiae of thousands upon thousands of chinese...

SoPac: more naval activity at Canton, several subs spotted, intel reports about 14000 men. in the coral sea, Recon has sighted 2, perhaps 3 enemy carriers heading SE, parallel to Noumea. believe tiger intends a raid on noumeas port, but he will find only 8 PT boats, all other ships have sortied. Lex and York still in the area, considering having them intercept, several reasons

1. Recon reports a small TF, perhaps 8 ships, and only 2 or 3 carriers, 1 reported as a CVL
2. i have several TFs with the carriers, and theyll doubtless take some of the punishment
3. the battle will take place damn near AT Noumea, and i will be very close to a port, while he will not
4. i will have LBA support, he will not.

Believe its an acceptable risk, might be able to take out a carrier or 2, and like i said itd take place nearly AT noumea

India: The march on Myitknia has begun, several infantry units and an armored unit as well. i dont want to make a mass comittment until i know more. also appears that some ships are heading for Trincomalee. maybe Trincomalaee is about to get the same treatment as PM? or it could be a carrier raid. though KB does seem to be scattered, as elements have been spotted in the coral sea, and 1 perhaps 2 were spotted near Lae, heading NE towards Truk. bombers have been prepared to strike the approaching ships in the bay of bengal. tomorrow a recon on Mandalay and myitkina will be ordered

NorPac: Quiet, though an I boat is still AT dutch harbor

Midway Areas: Quiet, nothing to see here, move along [:D] convoys heading home from Midway, should arrive Pearl harbor in a cpl days

SouWesPac: Convoy Alpha continues on course for PM, recon has spotted i boats in the area, will get interesting. Convoy Delta set sail from OZ, also heading PM.  consists of fast transports and light escort. Condoy Gamma loading at Brisbane, also bound PM. maybe they should be 1 big convoy? nahh, easier to spot by air recon

Nagato SUNK!!

Post by marky »

15 May 1942
Summary

India: Glorious day on the Indian front. Trim was blasted good, but it cost tiger a very nice battlebarge. i had hoped to achieve more hits, but Nagato and 2 of her destroyers were also hit by mines, probably slowed her up so the Swordfish could get at her. and its possible the mines may yet sink the 2 destroyers. it was of course the Swordfish from HMS Illustrious that did her in, im glad i had em for full naval attack.

theres also still at least 3 iboats in the area, and all thats been spotted is at mannargundi. im sending in heavy ASW forces to hit em. it could be recon for a potential invasion, so im moving troops near the coast. id prefer to stop him at the beachhead but theres so much coast to cover its nearly impossible. but ill divert all the infantry and wat armor i can sincei  want to start the offensive against myitkinia. the armor advanced much farther much faster than i thought they would, so im giving the green light for the march. there will be sum infantry support but most of the armor will take part.

China: looks as tho tiger will try to flank yenen, so im diverting troops up near there, and im sending more from Yunan and the trails. the march on hanoi is proceeding well

CentPac: 24th and 25th divisions nearly loaded, preparing to load supplies. wish the rest of the ships would get there already so i can get this over with.
oilers and the fuel convoy have nearly arrived at palmyra, so itll be much easier to RV all the carriers

SoPac: recon has lost contact with the 2-3 carriers spotted, so im getting Lex and York on their journey to Palmyra to RV with the rest of the fleet

SoWePac: convoy Alpha has nearly arrived at PM, but a freighter took a fish, shell probly not make it back, but the supplies MUST get through

WesPac: Nothing to see here, still.

NorPac: still the same I boat at Dutch Harbor, nothing else though

Nagato SUNK!!

Post by marky »

17 May 1942
Summary:

China: the countermarches continue. troops are heading west from Yunan to support the Burma campaign.

India: more imperial ships are headed for Ceylon, they look to be cruiers and a battleship. also, the secretof the march on mytikina is most certainly out. theres about 15000 nips marching there now. the laying of the advantage lies in who gets there first...

also in conjunction with the attack on mytikina, there are chinese troops heading for lashio, and more on the way from Yunan

CenPac: the invasion forces are ready, but it seems that theres a large force of the Combined Fleet there, including 4+ carriers and a few battleships. we shall have to see

NorPac: nuffin to see here

Midway area: quiet as a tomb

EastPac: nuffin here either

WestPac: nuffin here

SoWestPac: convoys have arrived and are unloading, unfortunately theres another IJN carrier force NE of New Guinea, so sum of them are certain to be sunk

SoPac: Lex and York are heading for the RV, theyll RV about 500 miles south east of Samoa. Halsey and Co are fueled and taking several oilers with them for the RV
also the freighters have beguin to unload fuel at palmyra, theres already 10000 units there

as many boats are heading to canton as possible for reconm, and maybe to put a fish in a carrier or 2....

i sense a great battle coming...

Few weeks late for Coral Sea Redux, few weeks early for Midway Redux. Still this feels right.
