Re-Read Instructions

Post by 06 Maestro »

So, there I was, about 6 game hours from the end of Charge of the Centaurs" when the game had to be shut down by Windows. I don't ever recall that happening with CotA before, and so did not take the proper precaution of auto save. I was not even sure if there was one-had to check the instructions, and low and behold, it's there under options. Too bad the little box needs to be checked for it to save every 20 minutes. Because of my oversight, and over taxing my mighty PC (multiple programs running, along with several open screen shots of my victory), I lost about 3 hours of game time-taking me back over 2 days of the game. I was at the bottom of the #^#% Map!-Just exited the first unit.[:@]

Anyway, I had been browsing through the instructions and Marks "Top Tips" over the past couple of days. I had come across several important items that affect game play-items that I completely had forgotten about.

This is just a friendly suggestion to refresh your memory with the good stuff in the reference manual and the tips book. And also, don't forget about the auto save box. This will allow you a better gaming experience and a little more peace of mind.

06 Maestro,

Sorry to hear you lose that time. Did you get an error message? This is most unusual as our testing of COTA proved it to be very robust. How many other apps did you have running? Did any of them crash at the same time. If so, or even if they themselves did not crash they could have overwritten COTA's memory space.

There were several things running, including IE 7, Outlook, Adobe Photo, various documents including a few screen shots and a screen capture program. This is sort of my normal running mode, so it was a surpris that this happened. About the closing message, it did not include a specific error number that I noticed. It (windows explorer error box) just said that CotA whatever has encountered a problem needs to close-also"sorry for any inconveiniance"[:D].

I was using my Alien machine; 256 G force, 1 gig ram, 320 gig HD in a raid 0 config. It can handle most anything I throw at it.

I don't recall ever having CotA close like that before, so this was just a fluke-hopefully, it'll be another 2 years before it happens again. It was no big deal, just took me by surprise.

Your "drival" is still quite useful. I would say that it is essential reading if someone really wants to win.
