Pre-purchase question

Post by leastonh1 »

Hi,

Well, I come back to the forum after being away for a while and I have to start spending more money!!! [:D]

This game looks great and I will be buying on Wednesday (the day my wife lets me have some spending money). I just have one question before buying, if that's ok?: I'm running XP SP2. Is it true I need IE7 installed to use the random map generator and editor(s) for the game?

I'm not keen on the idea of installing IE7 if there's a workaround, but will do if it is the only way to get the game running properly.

Thank you kindly,
Jim

Hi Jim,

The new 101d beta patch is fully functional with IE6. The following is a quote from Erik.

"Key feature is now FULL IE6 compatibility, no issues remaining that we can find."

Just as an aside I upgraded to IE7 not because of PCK but on the advice of friends. It is very good with a smooth install. Nice to use.

Regards John

Hi John,

Thanks for clearing that one up, much appreciated [:)] Looks like I'll be buying on Wednesday and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm always twitchy when it comes to anything by Microsoft. As I don't use IE most of the time, I'm very reluctant to install IE7. Firefox and K-Meleon are my choice these days. If I do ever need it, I generally use an IE tab in Firefox or Maxthon browser.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim,

As noted above, IE7 has been removed as a requirement as of the v1.01d update. We now require IE6, which is included in plain vanilla XP, no additional installation required. Also, note that we never required you to use IE7, just to have it installed on the system so we could use some of its components. It saves development time for us to be able to use freely available parts of the Windows system like this rather than reinventing the wheel. I would also say that IE7 is at this point quite stable and safe in my experience, but we listened to those who disagreed and added the backwards compatibility (the main reason we didn't do that initially is that it involved working around a lot of bugs in IE6).

Thanks for your interest and support!

Regards,

- Erik

Typical isn't it?!?! Women. Just bought the game (physical & download). Am sat watching it download (dribbling on my keyboard) as I type this, and guess what? I'm being dragged out the house to some shop or other by the Boss (for those of you NOT married, that would be the wife!). Life just isn't fair. Women are a royal pita! [:'(]

Thanks for listening.

Hehe! If only!

My plan is beginning to work though (has only taken 18yrs). When I am forced, coerced, blackmailed or otherwise threatened to go shopping with her, I try my best to be as awkward as poss. The holy grail comment almost passed her lips today: "I'm not taking you with me next time I go shopping!!!". [:D]

I do live in hope that one day she'll say it and mean it.

18yrs huh - well after almost 40 yrs. my wife and I have reached accomodation - when she goes shopping - if I want to influence or moderate just what exotic purchase shes makes, then I go with her, if I stay home, I better be willing to eat what she buys, and keep my mouth closed about whatever happened to catch her eye and end up in her shopping cart. So sometimes I go, and sometime I dont! When I go shopping - she generally knows if she wants me to get something specific, she better put it on a list or go with with me.

Hope you enjoy PC:K - I know I am.

I bow to your far superior wisdom and experience Rick. All good advice. I am still learning.

As for the game, I'm very impressed so far. Matrix certainly know how to pick them!
