Color Depth Unsupported

After installing the 3.9 patch I get the error "Color depth not supported" and it fails to load.

I go into my color settings, but there is no way to make the depth less than 16! I am running XP.

What resolution are you using?

Currently my screen is at 1440X900 at 16 bit.  But in the past (before the update), the game would automatically reduce my resolution and reduce my palette to 8-bit. Now, as I said, it can't reduce the colors down.

Are you using Harpoon 3 in windowed mode?

When I turn off windowed mode, I get errors, but somehow it then opens it inside a window, it works!  And I think I get a much better resolution as well.
