Multiplayer Problems

Post by Izzanbaad »

I had a look for similar issues, and so far there`s a subject about LAN not working that comes pretty close.

Me and two friend bought this game recently. I`m loving it single player, but we thought we`d try some fleet action online.

Obviously, there`s no servers up and about as the community for this game seems to be pretty much dead. I set up a game, Public, no password, and my friend could see it. No option to join - it is registered as "offline".
OK ... No idea how to solve that. So we boot up Hamachi which allows you to connect via LAN. I set up the LAN game and ... same. He can see the game there, it says it`s offline.
Whenever i come out of these games, i can see in the browser that my servers are there, and they are "offline". I can`t get back in.
OK, so the next step was to boot up a dedicated server using the -server variable. That worked great for me, i can see my own server and it`s showing up as "Lobby". Ping is 65, so i join and tell me friend to join. No, to him it`s showing as, "offline" by now i don`t have a CLUE what to do. If i use the internet browser, i can connect to the dedicated server no problem and so can he. Why the hell won`t it do it in the game?

I would check to make sure that the two machines can see each other over the LAN. I would also check Firewall settings on both PCs and make sure that the other PC is ‘trusted’ by the Firewall.

If what I mentioned earlier fails here is what the developer sent me as a way to test (Using the default port settings):
I guess the first thing I'd check is the LAN itself. Try running the game as a dedicated LAN server

C:> Starshatter-TheGatheringStorm.exe -server

And then try to hit your server box using a web browser from
another game machine on the network -

http://192.168.0.1:11111/

If that works, then there's probably an issue with the LAN routing
UDP packets to the main game port 11100. Check your router
or switch settings to see if it has UDP enabled on that port.

Hope this helps. Let me know.

There`s no router involved, he can see my game i can see his, he can connect to my games through a net browser and i can connect to his through a web browser. Dedicated servers allow me to connect to my own game, but not him.
