Core units as reinforcments?

Post by Romeo13 »

I've got a weird thing going on in one of my Randomly generated Campaigns.

Core units are coming in as reinfocments on later turns... and when it happens, the game CTDs at the end of the battle. Its as if it does not know how to deal with the next battle.

I also had one Campaign where a core unit was not put into the battle at all... although it was listed as a core in the Battle XML, it was not used in the Scenario XML.

I did not notice this until after I upgraded to the D upgrade... but that could easily be coincidence.

So, the question is, should Core units ever come in late?

Romeo13 what campaign were you playing?

It is possible for core units to come in as reinforcements (but they are often special core units which often don't follow you through the entire campaign, but can come and go, it is a RCG distinction).

The crashing business is not right obviously. If you have a save which duplicates the behavior please post it to the tech forum.

I'm playing the 1st Inf campaign with a modified OOB.  The OOB looks correct in the Battle files... all marked as Key untis and such, and with no reinforcement chances...

But on the third or fourth battle of the campaign, all the sudden Core units are having delays entering battle.

It may be because when I created the Battle XMLs, I deleted the core units I did not want, then pasted in a second Core folder with the OOB I did want, with both different unit types, and names.

Question, when the generator makes the battle from the battle.xml file, does it buy units in order?  I currently have my OOB sitting at the end of the file, although when I look at the scenario.xml file (one that is generated for the battle), it does look like my core units are somewhat intermixed with other units (order in the xml file)...

I'll go reorder those, generate a new campaign, and see what happens.

I think that might be your problem.

How many battle plans did you make?

Maybe you should post them and I will take a look.

OK, went in and ran some tests...

Built 3 German 1st Inf short campaigns, with origional battle files.  I then went in and looked at the Scenario files in the Scenario folder...

In all 3 runs, at least 2 out of 12 battles would have Core units coming in a reinforcments, ie, late in the battle.  Usualy Artillery or Mortars... but some were other units...

Last run my HQ infantry unit was coming in on turn 6.

Now, as the Battle files have these marked as Key units, and there is NO modifier for these units to be brought in late... this tells me somthing aint quite right.

Its also interesting that the order of units in the scenario XML file has nothing to do with the order in the battle template file (one in the battle folder).  The HQ, which is the FIRST unit listed in the battle folder file, was listed LAST in the scenario battle folder file.  It would seem to me that the first units placed into a battle would have to be your Core units, otherwise the points would get all hosed up...  I've played with the order in which the units were placed in the XML battle file, and it does not seem to make any difference in the scenario xml file...
