Ingame Briefing Mod

Post by Stridor »

This will become part of the next patch and will eventually have the HQHelper system incorporated into it so that makes it all much more user friendly.

I am releasing it now because there was some interest in being able to review a briefing whilst playing the game.

Install PzCOBd.hta into your main PCK directory. To use simply alt-tab out of your PCK game and then click on the file to bring up the briefing. If you want to make it real slick make a desktop shortcut to PzCOBd.hta and then in the shortcut properties define a Shortcut key (example Ctrl+Shift+B). Then all you need do is ALT+TAB out of PCK, then press Ctrl+Shift+B and you will have the briefing displayed [8D]

Enjoy

Stridor, I'm one of those wanting to see the briefing in game. My thoughts were more in line with putting it in the Menu drop down selection. Leaving the game and fighting to get somewhere before it puts me back in the game is barely workable.

Good Hunting.

MR,

I have no access to the PCK code (that is Koios domain)

So this is as good as it gets until K decide to add the feature in the future.

It will eventually incorporate the HQ help system as well so I see it as a bonus over what went before.

Unfortunately PCK grabs the keyboard buffer so I can't read it whilst the game is running so you need to ALT-TAB out.

With this you can be reading your briefing in 3 seconds and back to your game in 2. That is much faster and more convenient than saving, restarting (surrendering) to read the briefing and then reloading back to where you were in the game which would take more than 60 seconds.

Enjoy

Well, it doesn't exactly work that smooth on my machine. I leave the game and the first action I take reactivates the game and I get sent back in. It takes a couple times leaving to actually get somewhere and stay there.

Is there a functional difference between alt+tab and using the microsoft flag key to exit?

The Windows key or MS flag key does the same as alt+tab. I've had the same problem since beta PCOWS. Sometimes the game just won't stay minimized. Drives me crazy.

An ingame hotkey for the briefing would be nice. JTCS and CM have this feature.

That was happening to me until I realized that it was the MatrixGameMainMenu that gave me problems, because I'd invariably close it when I got to the windows screen, and that would bounce me back into the game. Now when I get to the "play game settings screen", I close the Matrix logo screen to eleiminate that temptation. When I alt-tab now thing work fine. I do this a lot for pasting screenshots, checking questions or answers on the forum.

I didn't know about the window key. I'll try that out. Thanks!

I've used Stridors utility a few times already - works nice for me - sure it would fit cleaner in the game menu - but this does the trick just fine for me.

Thanks Stridor.

Yes PCK wants to pop back once it is minimized. You can do as rick said or if you use my quick start and autosave manager system not only will you be playing PCK faster, with better autosave features, it won't have the problem with bouncing back. Then alt-tab, CTL+SHT+B should work.
