Why not add also the position of all capital ships that were sank.
No. There were hundreds, perhaps close to a thousand.
I was only talking about capital ships, for me theses are BB and Carriers only.
Not much BB sunk during WW2, no ?

I noticed the typo for the Danish CA Niels Juel was still there. In your list the ship was wrongly spelled Niels Iuel.

Look here for details:
http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/danish_navy.htm

Will the typo be fixed?

You are likely to find that many of the Japanese and German ships were sunk in harbors near the end of the war. And of the 4 ships you list as sunk at Pearl Harbor, some of them were refloated and repaired (bottomed) if I am not mistaken.

maybe a nice Easter Egg could be where the Bismarck rests in the Atlantic...
Yes, why not.
Why not add also the position of all capital ships that were sank.
Warspite 1

What about famous battles?

Battles: River Plate, Narvik, Taranto, Matapan, Pearl Harbor, Force Z, Barents Sea, North Cape, Java Sea, Guadalcanal, Coral Sea, Midway, Phillipine Sea, Leyte Gulf
Individual ships: Hood, Bismarck, Yamato, Tirpitz, Ark Royal
Convoys: PQ17 and Pedestal (although Pedestal was fought over a large area so where do you put the script?)
Historical Fleet Encounters perhaps??: Lepanto (1571), Trafalgar (1805), Tsushima (1905), Jutland (1916)

Edit : I also put a few easter eggs (size 6), the place where Harry Rowland lives, the place where I live, famous shooting places for the Lord of the Ring (I know you don't like that, but I love that), if you see others that could be added let me know.

The Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plan was instrumental in nuclear weapons production starting in 1952. I guess that leaves it out (at least for this product). DARN!

However, there is Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Oak Ridge, TN. This is where the uranium was refined to make the two bombs used in WWII.

http://www.ornl.gov/info/ornlreview/rev ... ter1.shtml mentions that it was one of the three sites created to develop the atomic bomb. Does anyone know what the other one is?

This should go either in the same hex as Knoxville or one hex west of there. It seems pretty close.

Bridge is the best wargame going .. Where else can you find a tournament every weekend?

Yes, I know, but most of those I had removed were only hulls. I know that the Iron Duke was a real ship. Apologies to everyone.

mentions that it was one of the three sites created to develop the atomic bomb.

Los Alamos, NM
Oakridge Laboratory, TN
University of Chicago Nuclear Physics Lab, Illinois

Enrico Fermi and Robert Oppenheimer designed the processes at UoC, Oakridge provided the fissile materials, and Los Alamos was the building and testing site.

The Lawrence Livermore site in Oakland was also involved in some of the physics aspects, and there was a site in Washinton State (the name escapes me, it was near Tacoma) that also was involved in developing the fissile materials.

Patrice - my view for what its worth is that there is one problem with this approach. Looking at CV and BB only is too narrow. Yes, the big gun battleships and the carriers were the sexy end of the market, but in terms of story, contribution to the war etc it is often some of the "lesser" ships that need and should be remembered for a variety of reasons. So the Unryu was sunk in the East China Sea? And? So what?

How about its decided how many names can be used and then we ask for reasons for inclusion? For example Bismarck, Hood, Prince of Wales, Yamato, Yorktown, Akagi etc yes of course they need inclusion. But what about HMS Glowworm, HMS Onslow, HMS Coventry and their VC heroes, what about the brave men of the USS Reuben James lost before the US were even in the war, the tragic story of the Sullivan brothers on USS Juneau? The fundamental decency in treatment of POW`s of the Kreigsmarine Captain Langsdorff of the Graf Spee.

The write ups give players a taster for further info - adding these lesser known names to the map could provide the same stimulus for knowledge.

Well, a dissenting voice is, I know, always welcome in this friendly forum.

Don't include historical sunken ships, or battles, or, need I say it, 'easter eggs': each game of WIF is a new war which creates new history. Now, a map that could be annotated during game play to record epic battles and ignominious defeats would be something.

No really... the Yukon River runs through Lake Laberge past Whitehorse and south. The piece you have put on the map, from the Bering Sea to central Alaska, is only half of the run of the third largest river in North America. Can you fix it Patrice?

She appeared in Patrice's early lists, but has been dropped recently, but still ... for the avoidance of doubt, Béarn was never sunk but survived to the end of the war.  I have no idea why she keeps appearing as sunk in lists.  Presumably somebody imagines she was in Toulon when Vichy was overrun, while in reality she was in Martinique.

I am opposed to all easter eggs (to someone who despises Lord of the Rings, such things just add an amateurish feel to the game).  I think it is excessive chrome to mark the locations of sunk capital ships, but there might be an excuse to mark major naval battles (as is already being done with major land battles).  The trouble is that WW2 naval battles generally took place over large distances ... which hex would one choose to mark the location of the Battle of the Coral Sea, for example?

I recall the last time the subject of easter eggs came up there was a strong body of opinion opposed to their use for largely the reason given by Marcus. After which it all went quiet. Do I take it that easter eggs are in the game to stay or is this something that can be put to a vote?

For the record and as I said previously, I am absolutely against non-WWII or at least non miitary historical references as this cheapens the overall effect of these stunning maps - although concede that as he provided us with the worlds greatest WWII game, Harry Rowland should be allowed to keep reference to his house[;)]

Maybe we could also have an option to turn off the easter egg names and/or various other city/territory names so we can look at the map with less clutter.

At zoom levels 1-5 the "easter egg" names do not appear.

At all levels of zoom the player can turn off all map labels: On or Off, no other options.

My enthusiasm for more adding flexibility than this can be imagined.

a true 'easter egg' is very well hidden and the people who are opposed to them would never find them. done right they wouldn't distract from the game at all.

I only mentioned the Bismarck because of the Robert Ballard expedition that found it, so the world now knows it's very precise location. I didn't realize what a Pandora's Box that would open but yes, I think a few more naval battles could be added to the map if historical land battles are? (Maybe some naval ones already are, like Cape Matapan?). But perhaps picking one over another probably isn't worth the arguing. If the Bismarck is on there you would need the Hood too, but I would stop there, or maybe add the Sydney and Kormoran with the new info.

I still don't think Monte Cassino should be put on the map in a clear hex, that looks kinda silly and should be left off the list.
