Fighter planet crashes

Ok maybe I'm just a terrible pilot but this doesn't make a lick of sense. I am on the training mission called flight training, and every time I try to land I crash, now I've played several flight sims including the microsoft ones so I know how to land an aircaft at least in a game. The last time I tried it I though I was on the ground with zero alt and zero speed and when I switched to exterior view the plane was about a foot off the ground with the gear down. So I used the control thrusters just a tap mind you and boom blew up, what kinda crap aircraft blows up after dropping gently from one foot with the gear down???? This is frustrating as all get out!!!

Check you game settings in OPTIONS.

Flight Model: Standard, Relaxed and Arcade are selectable.

Standard is the most realistic in atmosphere.

Landings: Standard and Easier are selectable.
