DTVT's basic pro offense 0.1

Post by dreamtheatervt »

I didn't know how to upload this to FBMax, so I just utilized my personal filebox on the VT server to host this.

Base O

It's zipped in .rar format.

Offensively, it is designed to be a balanced pro style offense utilizing a variety of personel groupings.
Defensively, it is a base 43 defense with a nickle and (some) dime package. Althought there are a decent number of blitzes, it really isn't designed to be a blitzing defense (that will be the next package).

What still needs to be done before I suggest using it:
Goalline offense and defense
More passing plays
Profiles
Custom special teams plays (uses stock ones now, I will change that by the final version)

I've seen every running play break big gainers against an appropriate defense, and I've seen plays get stuffed.

What I have seems to be working the way I want, but I'm using my plays against my plays, so I'm hoping to get some feedback, and in return I hope you'll find some things you like yourself.

It's 3:15 am, so if anyone wants clarification on what things mean or whatever, I'll get to that later.

Thanks for uploading your work DTVT.  It's going to take a while for me to get a good look at all the plays to evaluate whether I'll use them in my offline league playbooks, but for now I have a few quick impressions:

- Quick Screens:  the ball is getting there in a hurry (which is great!), so the potential for a big play is there if a blocker can engage.  I haven't run the plays enough to see that happen yet, though.  Noticed that you have a few CB jam plays on defense that should be a good counter for the quick screens.

- Defense:  while you mentioned that this isn't a very aggressive D in this release, a few of the 43 blitzes worked very well against the run in the short yardage situations I tested.

- Designed QB Draw:  REALLY nice in the brief few times I've seen it - blockers chased down and engaged defenders nicely and opened up a BIG hole each time.

- Running Plays Overall:  Solid thus far.  Nice work on the traps and pulling lineman, in particular - getting some good gains here and there with an average back.

- Only criticism thus far is with some of the pass blocking in the Ace 3WR set and a few pass plays here and there - looks like the o-line is not picking up the outside rush fast enough or forming a pocket.  In particular, many plays seem to use both the TE and the RB as receivers, and the lack of an extra blocker on these plays is also hurting the pass protection.  Maybe the QB needs to shorten their drop as well if all designated recievers are going out on pass patterns?  One of the PDS gurus can probably point out some suggestions for helping the pass blocking in much more accurate detail than I.

Overall, good work on this first set, and I hope to see more in the future.

Thanks for the input.  I forgot to fix the doubles pass plays, I'll touch those up and add some more all around.

The quick screen actually wasn't designed to be a home run play, but I did see one go to house for 72 yards once.  It's more of a "if you are going to lay off, we're going to take the 5-8 yards you are giving us" play / audible.

I need to try the QB draw with a mobile QB, because the statuesque QB I tried it with was making nice gains.

Look for 0.2 soon (I don't know how numbering is supposed to work, so I'm just making mine up, with 1.0 being the first "ready to use" set).
