I think we had a lull over the holiday weekend, I know I was away, I assume others were too.

I'm still playing it.

I think I've eventually got used to the command options and command structure. Losing quite a few tanks in my battle too!

I've been making a scenario and trying different ideas out with the system. Seeing what it's capable of.

The scenario can be found in the Mods/Scenarios section. It's in the HSG Cats Claws thread.

Let me know what you think of it.

I haven't played in a while due to some other matters arising, but I am a little down on the scenarios of the German Kharkov campaign.

I'm not sure I'm correct in my opinions, but supposedly my unit is "on the attack", but every battle so far I seem to be outnumbered.  And lately, I've been encountering large numbers of T-34 tanks that really chew up my armor, forcing me to replay the scenarios to devise better/different strategies for "attacking" them.  Now, these are tough scenarios.  They require really good strategies/results to win.  I just don't feel like I'm part of an offensive -- I'm only given the burden of attack against superior forces.

It appears to be a good way to achieve "difficult play" without putting a big burden on the AI.  That's why I'm not sure about my opinions.  Maybe this is a good thing.  It just seems a little frustrating to me.  Perhaps I should be enjoying the outnumbered engagements, but I find I'm not really b/c I feel I should have more resources than I have considering the operational situation.  FWIW.

They are tough, it's true - you are the spearhead of the 14th Panzer Division, in effect and for camaign reasons you are pretty much involved in most of the key fights the 14th Panzer had to drive north and close off the pocket. There was some very tough fighting there that resulted in the division being redirected at one point and being very hard pressed in several places when the mass of Soviet forces tried to break out/break in to relieve the pocket. Keep in mind that two full previously uncommitted Soviet Tank Corps ended up in that pocket!

Feel free to try it on 'Easy' - the AI will have fewer forces so that you can fight the same scenarios without always being outnumbered.

That sounds like a comment from Spartan King Leonidas at that narrow pass versus the Persians.

There were very few times in the history of the war in the east when the Germans weren't outnumbered. That included when they were on the attack.

It's the forces you have at your disposal and how you wield them that makes the difference.

If you are looking for a more fluid situation you can try HSG Cats Claws. It can be found in the Mods/Scenarios section. So far it's gotten some pretty good reviews. The scenario is a pure Meeting Engagement. It's got a unit naming model different than any other as well.

If you try it leave me some comments about what you thought of it.

Good Hunting.

Hi JD, I am alot like you are, no matter how much I like a game I seldom finish them and that is what is happening here. I've played my limit and now I must move on.

But how far did you get into it? A full campaign? Half a campaign? A few battles?

When I play it, I'll load it (which does take an age) and play maybe half a dozen phases...sometimes less

I played a long campaign and I played a fair bit, I can't remember off the top of my head how many battles I played but I did get tired and I found the "simulating turn" portion so time consuming that I got tired of it. That one thing just got to me.

I'm finding the waiting on 'simulating turn' is quite a drag. Think they may need to work on optimizing the code or something.

Hi All,

Yes waiting for the turn to simulate can be tedious.

Hm, that's really processor and scenario-dependent - most of the calculation involves the relative spotting, which increases in calculation time with the number of units. What kind of system specs are you guys running with? The simulation code is optimized pretty well and runs pretty quickly on dual core processors.
