Scenarios?
Does anyone know what scenarios will be included in the AE package? Obviously Dec 7th '41 until wars end, but what others?
Can i put in a vote for the May '42 scenario (prior to Midway, etc.). When playing Allies against the AI this is about as good as it gets - Japs have expanded as far as they did historically, Allies are very weak. Good fun battle.

RE: Scenarios?
We've posted this before ... but here it is again ...
(1) Master Scenario - 7/8 Dec through 31 Mar 46 (pretty much the equivalent of stock 15 .. with of course our totally redone OOBs, AI, code, etc.)
(2) Alternate Master Scenario - Scenario (1) is as historical as we can make it, given our constraints. Scenario (2) will offer some surprises.
(3) Guadalcanal Campaign - Aug 42 - through Feb 43. Nik is porting his GuadMod over to AE ... should be a doozy!
(4) Aleutians Campaign - May 43 - Aug 43. Kristian brings us the US Attack in the Aleutians.
(5) Coral Sea - 15 turns in early May 42. Equivalent of stock scenario with all AE changes.
That's our line-up right now (subject to change).
We have an August Storm '45 scenario planned, but looks like it will have to wait for a patch as the AI work has put development of this scenario on hold.

RE: Scenarios?
Sounds great,
I am a big fan of the May 42 full campaign start scenario in stock. I like it because it is a historical start that places Japan at its near high water mark, but does not have them all over India and OZ like some good IJN players are able to do in the early months of the war. Yet, as it is still May 42, the Japanese player can still pull off a few nifty moves before the Allies can really fight back. (But they are not gonna take India!)
Is is possible to have this one in AE? If not now perhaps in a later patch.

RE: Scenarios?
Oh we would love to do May 42 start .. but to research the new locations of all the units on the map is a huge task, far greater than we have had time for. It is certainly a possibility for en eventual patch, but, it would be a ways out, since we have not formally started working on it.

RE: Scenarios?
The Rising Sun Scenario would not be a bad one if the OOB was revamped a bit. Both the Japanese Infantry Divisions that went into Burma (33&55) had only 2 regiments (the others were detached). Neither the Shokaku nor Zuikaku were available for the DEI Campaign...both went to the yards in Feb 42.
Elements of 7th Australian Division landed in Java in Feb 42...the whole division was a possibility by mid-March. The 2/131 Artillery Battalion (USA) actually made it to Java. Other elements of the 46th Artillery Bde were available and almost made it in to action. A squadron of A-24s (forgot #) made it to Java before the fall. Finally approxiamately 300 P-40Es made it to Australia as replacements for the units of the USAAFE...many more than are available in vanilla.(There are a couple of other omissions as well.)
In The Rising Sun Scenario the Japanese Player has to conquer everything without losing much in order to win. Adding in the Allied units that were missing in Vanilla and taking out the Japanese units which were included erroneously could make the scenario a real challenge for the Japanese Player (in spite of the overall hopelessness of the Allied Player's position).
(There was also a problem in Vanilla with the Allied Player not being able to withdraw British ships because the ports to do so weren't on the map).

RE: Scenarios?
Sorry to hear this [:(]
I'm not really interested in playing other scenarios than full war pre/post Midway ones - by far the most interesting setups to me.
So I guess I'll wait to see if that scenario gets included in a patch - or is made by one of our brilliant modders...! - before I spend my hard-earned cash
...
Nah, I'll probably buy it anyway - if only to see the new map and rename a few TFs (so cool that feature has been added).

RE: Scenarios?
Does not take too long after somebody will make 42/43 scenarios for AE, I think, after it's released.

RE: Scenarios?
I hope there's an AI expert out there who is planning to make an AI mod! AE apparently will ship with the ability to mod the AI in some ways.

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

RE: Scenarios?
Oh I imagine we will have 50 AI modders by the end of the first week. I expect to be among them!

AI is going to be fun after we get finished with it.
Re Scens I am running with Scen 2 at present which has a slightly stonger Japan trying to achieve a similar balance to Scen 19 in UV with a few enhancements for Japan but not going into full on mod mode which is what the modders will do post release.

RE: Scenarios?
Oh, I'll definitely be trying my hand at an AI mod. I'm not an AI whiz, but I have written a checkers and chess AI. Which means I'm...almost completely unprepared to take on AE!

RE: Scenarios?
I think people have a misconception of what an AI mod entails in AE.
You will be able to mod:
- the script used by the AI to determine which and in what order bases will be captured
- which ground and air units units will be used to capture and subsequently defend the bases in the script.
In other words you will be able to craft several list of bases and a list of units to take those bases. The units will then attempt to capture the bases in the approximate order that the bases are listed.
------
You will NOT be able to mod:
-How the AI employs the ground and air units assigned to a script
-AI composition of TF's
-How the AI employs said TF's
-AI movement of resources and supplies.
-What units/ships the AI will target
-When or how the AI will decide to stand or retreat
etc etc.

Still..it will be huge improvement.

RE: Scenarios?
I know it is not a wishlist thread but still I'm sure many of us would love to see some shorter scenarios like Coral Sea, that are playeble in a shorter time-frame. IMHO the most favourite would be Midway...and the OOB for that is pretty well covered.
So any chance for that one (even if not in the initial release)?

RE: Scenarios?
I want to do a fictional Japanese mid 42 invasion of NZ it will be about a 120 turn scenario primarily CW v Japan with a USN SAG made out of the US Carrier escorts
But this is going to take a couple of months to do and we need to get the core done 1st.
I know others want to get other scenarios done

With all this talk about which custom scenarios should be made first, I would think that the date for AE's release was getting rather close. [:D]
Yamato, IMO the best looking Battleship.

Not Midway, no... But Coral Sea is a two-week scenario, and the Aleutian scenario is two months.
The problem with Midway is that WitP isn't good at simulating luck, which had a HUGE part to play in the real battle. Plus, the IJN player will KNOW that the USN carriers are there, something that Nagumo didn't, and certainly won't bomb Midway until he's taken care of them.
Thus, Midway is not a good candidate for a WitP scenario, although we're not ruling it out 100% (though not for initial release).
