How to "mount" infantry in building in the scenario editort

Post by invernomuto »

Hi,
I am designing a new multiplayer scenario. I need that a some units start "mounted" in a building. How can I do that?

In the scenario editor use your mousewheel to zoom down onto the buildings you want the infantry to mount in and the move them onto the buildings.

Or

With an infantry squad selected you can shift right click on a building to move the squad inside it.

I hope that helps

Trapped infantry.  See map L6 for an example.  If you put a squad of infantry in some of the damaged buildings during deploy, it looks good.  But in a movement phase, that unit is "trapped" on the ruined building.  The unit cannot mount or dismount because it is sitting on the ruin.  It is trapped because the damaged building is surrounded by a red impassible barrier.  It isn't clear to me if the trapped unit gets any defensive bonus or not.

So when designing a scenario is is important to take into account that players can now use the placement command during deploy to mount/unmount what appears to be buildings.... that may in fact, be a death trap for the unit.  Since this probably was not an issue until it became possible to mount/dismount the units during deploy using the Place Unit or Place Group command.

On the plus side, this may be a way that a designer can ensure that the AI's force stays put and fights to the death rather than attempting to capture victory areas.  I can see a situation where it would be possible to put some units in a large building that is surrounded by red in the Map.bmp and those units would not be able to leave in pursuit of victory flags.  Fight until the last!

Ah yes.....and what about the old CM standbys....putting vehicles, AT guns, mines...etc...in buidlings, rubble, swamps, rough terrain.....etc....

I have an idea that I'll just be getting comfortable with all the things this editor married to the sceanrio and campaign generators can do before the next game in the series comes along and we get to add the new things that game brings to the series....plenty to do here folks!!!

Good Hunting.

Yes very true Redleg. You need to have some knowledge of the actual 3D map rather than just the map overview but in most instances those red dots = mountable and unmountable buildings.
