The Allies brought in a complete divison to Adamantan island (more than 13000 men reported daily). His ships are unloading for days now and my bombers have sunk only a few of them. Time to pay the Allies a visit!

The Battle of Mandalay!!!!!!

Post by dennishe »

Efate fell today. It was defended by a base force and a coastal regiment as well. The New Hebrids and New Caledonia have been secured and will be moderately fortified. They are too far out to defend completely, since they can easily be bypassed. Now, I have to think what the next target is going to be. NZ is for graps, but then I run the risk that my troops are going to be cut off, since the supply line to NZ will be really small. First Fiji has to be taken before I can focus on NZ. Perhaps going for Canton first and cut off Pago Pago and Fiji from the US and OZ altogether would be a great move. The Allies only have two or three active carriers with the Lexington sunk and the Yorktown damaged. I have a few days to think about this.

Further, I'm starting preparations to take the Philippines. I can't allow the Allied submarines to have a large navy base in the middle of my resource area. For this, I have troops from the Malayan campaign and two divisions from the Kwantung Army available (for one I still have to pay PP).

The major victory today was in Burma. Usually, I hate to cross a river, since it initiates a shock attack. This one was really sweet. I attacked with two divisions, three tank regiments and an Army HQ. I must have completely suprised the Allies I since I captured a lot of planes on the ground. I may have destroyed the complete Allied air force in Burma, including the AVG! That would be really nice, since those guys were hurting me. It should be a piece of cake now to close the Burma road...

RE: The Battle of Mandalay!!!!!!

I just started to prep my troops for Clark field. The actual invasion will not start this or the next months.

There will be no invasion of PH. I do not know where the Allied divisions are. My Glen-subs are replenshing. Hopefully, I will have a good idea of the Allied forces within a few days. Going for an all out attack for PH is too risky. Especially, if I stumble on top of a few extra divisions. I rather go for the islands in the southeast pacific and knock out a few more carriers out of the war in the process.

As I said before, skipping the Philippines and going for PH can be an awesome strategy, but I think it is better to crush PH directly from day one...

RE: The Battle of Mandalay!!!!!!

3/27/1942. This is the current situation in the Pacific. The frontline is given in yellow.
Isolated Allied pockets are given in green. Bases at which large infantry units such as
regiments, brigades and divisions are located are highlighted with a yellow circle (except
for Japan, China and Matchuria, which off coarse would be completely yellow). Red
arrows are attacks that are underway or will commence very soon. Dotted arrows are planned.

More and more I'm leaning towards a pincer attack on both Fiji and Canton. If I can take
these islands and Pago Pago in a next step I completely cut of OZ and NZ from the USA.
It all depends now where the Allied divisions are. First I want to go for Baker and Canton.
These actions will cut off the target islands from PH (this is where I expect the main Allied
force). Once these positions are secured and Betty and Nell bombers are installed I will
advance further into the Pacific. For all these actions I have the 21st division (currently at
Rabaul), the Army at Noumea and Efate (2 divisions, tank regiment and an army HQ) and
several smaller units available. I have to be careful though. My units already went
through a lot of fighting and may need some rest and replacements. Further I don't want
to land them on top of an American division. Anyway, if I can just take a few of the
objectives, it will be enough to disrupt the Allied shipping and weaken OZ...

4/1/1942 update!

Post by dennishe »

It is 4/1/1942. I think the war is going pretty well. Here are the statistics for march 1942. My plane losses were on the high side, compared to the Allied losses. Most of this was caused by the AVG, but that problem is solved. I started training my units and shipping oil and resources to Japan. I think economically things go OK, although the number of HI seems to be dropping a bit. I increased some HI factories in Indo-China (close to oil and on top of resources, saves me the shipping).

The invasion of Baker island is underway. It will soon be mine. Next was going to be Canton island, but I think the Allies brought in a division (lot of ships reported around Canton for days). Taking out an one-hex-island that has been guarded by a division requires a lot of troops and will give a lot of casualties. I'm not sure if I want to do that. Canton, Pago Pago and Fiji are very nice to have, but not at those costs.

Further there is another treat. The Allies shipped in a division to Adamantan island and also Akyab has lots of units digging in. I suspect that the Allies are building up air bases here, from where they can hit my industry in Indochina. Again, these targets have to be taken out via amphibious landings, which will cost me. But there is a much better alternative:

I knocked out all troops in Burma. They surrendered, retreated into jungle hexes are are pushed back into China. Further I destroyed the complete British airforce in Burma in the battle for Mandalay, where also the entire AVG got destroyed. The British further have large units at Adamantan island and Akyab, from where they cannot retreat. India must be very weakly defended! Initially, I was not planning to take it, but under these circumstances I might not want to pass on the opportunity.

Therefore I'm thinking to start a large India campaign. Objectives are:

A. Take the Calcutta, Dacca, Diamond Harbor and Anasole area, where there is a lot of resources, oil and heavy industry. This would be very benificial to my economical situation, especially since this region does not require shipping in large amounts of raw materials. It should be quite independent.

B. Besides the main invasion, parachute operations will take bases in Northeast India to cut off the British Burmese army. As soon as a stable front with the remainder of India has been established, these troops will be wiped out.

C. The operation will be supported by KB, which will destroyed British airfields along the coast and destroy the British carriers when they show up. With the royal navy out of the war, I can close down akyab and adamantan island with coastal bombardements, supported by my airforce.

For the whole operation I have about 5 divisions and many supporting units directly availabe. The limiting factor will be my ships. A lot of AKs are used to ship supplies to the far Pacific and resources back to Japan. As you might expect the invasion of the Philippines has been postponed again.

But first I will take Baker island. This will be a forward defense base for Tarawa. This will give me a few more days to rethink this operation. It will be my first attempt ever to go further into India than Myitkiyna. Suggestions are very welcome.......

More recon data:

5 units at Akyab, including the 18th UK division
3 units at Adamantan island now. Lots of AKs and APs. I'll bet the 2nd UK division is there now. There are more troops reported than at Akyab.

Perhaps I will prep some of my units for these targets. there is no use to prep my troops for the real targets, because I do not know where the heavy fighting will take place. I do not want to tip the allies off yet. The more troops at Akyab and Adamantan and there is nothing he can do anymore when my troops strike at Diamond Harbor, Calcutta, Dacca, and other bases in that area......

I found enough transports to transport my whole armada into the Indian Ocean. KB is currently supporting the invasion of Baker island and will after this raid Canton island. Then I will move it to the far west.

For some reason my spotters are very poor at detecting coastal defense regiments. I guess I did it again and unloaded an invasion force right into coastal fire. Anyway, tomorrow KB will pound the place and reinforcements are underway. I guess the invasion of Baker will cost me a little more time.

Coastal Guns at Baker Island, 94,92, firing at TF 126
TF 126 troops unloading over beach at Baker Island, 94,92

1458 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

AK Kongo Maru, Shell hits 2,  on fire
AP Kashima Maru, Shell hits 16,  on fire,  heavy damage
AP Kaito Maru, Shell hits 17,  on fire,  heavy damage
AK Hirokawa Maru, Shell hits 9,  on fire,  heavy damage
AP Aratama Maru, Shell hits 11,  on fire,  heavy damage

Japanese ground losses:
1081 casualties reported
Guns lost 12

Edit: The first invasion wave for Baker island has been wiped out due to attrition. Sending in more costs me a lot of time and I really want to send KB west immediately. I cancelled further invasions in the far Pacific for now. First I'm going to hit India. If my plan works out I'm gaining control of an important industry area and will knock out the British army out of the war for quite a long time. After that I will focus on the Pacific again, since I guess the Americans will start to plan a counter offensive by then.

Playing the with the Japanese still freaks me out once in a while. While playing with the Allies a disastrous battle does not mean the end of the war. For Japan on the other hand, it may ruin everything. Well, there is a major battle coming up. My troops are preparing for an Indian campaign. I have 5 divisions floating near Singapore with lots of supporting troops and 3 divisions in the Burma area already.

The Allies have for sure an Indian division between Ledo and Miytkiyna, the 18th UK division at Akyab and the 2nd/B UK division at Adamantan island. All these divisions will not be able to respond to an invasion in India.

The plan is as followed:

phase 1: Bombardement of Adamantan island and Akyab. This will be carried out by surface TFs supported by miniKB and lots and lots of Betty bombers. When the Royal Navy shows up it will be destroyed by miniKB (2 CVs, all CVLs and CVEs) and the Betties.

Phase 2: Paradrops at Anasole and at the hex near Diamond Harbor (forgot the name of the base). This will prevent Alllied reinforcement of the area. The main force will land at Diamond Harbor, Calcutta or Chandpur. Not sure yet where. Have to recon first, but don't want to tip him off yet where the invasion takes place.

Phase 3: KB will show up (currently at Truk) and destroy the Royal Navy if it does not come out and play.

Phase 4: Allied pockets inland in Burma, at Akyab and Adamantan island will be completely neutralized or destroyed. Depending on the outcome the rest of India may be attacked. For now the focus is on the industrial Area around Calcutta and Dacca.

Southeastasia
Phase one of the operation is going OK. Adamantan island and Akyab have both been hit by coastal bombardement attacks from my CAs and BBs (see an example below). The Allies are withdrawing planes from these locations or at least not reinforcing the air force here. EdM knows the whereabouts of my invasion fleet (his subs aimed torpedoes at my carriers but missed or shot duds), but does not know its size or its destination. It is close to Adamantan island, which it will bypass. From there it will follow a route close to Akyab. EdM must think until the very last that the destination of my fleet indeed is Akyab. So far I think he does not know the real target since his Indian infantry division is still attacking my tank regiment in the jungle between Myitkyina and Ledo instead of withdrawing and preventing it being cut off in the jungle.
There is no sign of the Royal Navy. I have lots of Betty and Nell bombers spotting for it and as soon as it comes out and play these Betty and Nell bombers will destroy it, escorted by Zero fighters and fighters and bombers from miniKB. If it does not come out and play it will be destroyed in port by KB. KB is currently close to Palembang where it will refuel and then will sneak up to Ceylon and bombard the crap out of it.

My ubercap pretty much destroyed all planes that the British send to intercept my invasion fleet. Only very few planes got through, but one of them put a torpedo in the Hiyo. It is not badly damaged, but still I have to retreat it to (initially) Rangoon. From there it will go to Singapore as soon as it is stable.
The Allies have two units at Chandpur, one at Dacca. Dacca has an airfield, so this one unit has to be a base force. Tomorrow the paratroopers will try to capture Dacca and cut off Chandpur. The British are trying to reinforce Diamond Harbor. There are 6 units there now, but I think I can take it. KB is nearby. There will be no more British shipping in the area very soon. No signs of the Royal Navy yet...

The battle for India

Post by dennishe »

D-day went perfectly, my troops landed at Chandpur dispite heavy casualties (calculated though) and my paratroopers are holding on at Dacca. A need a few more days to unload, then I will start my offensive. Chandpur and Dacca should fall soon. After that, who knows....

KB stumbled upon the British CVs today. No idea what they were doing there. Either they were way out of position, fleeing or trying to intercept the damaged Hiyo. Anyway they are to the bottom of the Ocean now...

The Allies surrendered

Post by dennishe »

EdM surrendered today. I do not exactly know what the Allied positions were, but I guess India was wide open and I had my foot in the door. The route to OZ was blocked and my positions in the Pacific too strong and his carrier fleet too small (destroyed RN carriers and the Enterprise with the Yorktown and Hermes(?) damaged). It would have taken a while before the Allies would be able to fight back and therefore see EdMs point of view. In the end it matters most that both players are having fun. Anyway I learned a lot playing with the Japanese....
