From personal experience I can tell that it will run on less than required but
- too few RAM and you have a noticable probablity for crashes during/after turn execution
- too slow CPU and too few RAM and you will experience seconds long waits during UI interactions.

Note that in both cases too few/too slow refers to a 6 or 7 years old Laptop, something few people will have anymore.
I will not give any absolute numbers so they can not be misinterpreted into any "guarantee".

I started playing WitP on an AMD 1.3 ghz duron cpu and 512 MB RAM, it played fine.
AE will have a bit more trouble playing on that old system.
It's not like your cpu will have alot of graphics to render like some games such as Oblivion or Crysis.
If you are unsure, post your system specs.
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

my completed lack of understanding technical stuff leaves me in a bit of a quandry.

I have a P4 3GHz....at least that is what it says. I run WITP regular okay and it seems fast to me anyways.

I have 504MB ram

Is this still enough for AE? I bought this damn thing just to play WITP. So WITP cost me 900$ for the computer and 135$ for the game oh so many moons ago.

Thanks for the info. I asked this question because I wondered if I needed a new laptop to play AE.

My current laptop is a 1.73 centrino with 512 ram and shared video. It runs witp just fine. I hoped it would run AE.

It should in theory be able to run it, albeit VERY slowly. Lots more data to munch on for the computer. Same goes for 33Vyper's question.

cyberwop... I have a laptop with the same specs. Do you find that WITP seems to burn up hte battery faster than other programs? I never seem to get enough time out of mine when I play WITP on it...[:(]

Boy, have I figured that out... I did buy an external battery to double the length of time I can play away from a power source, but it's still not long enough!

lol, I think we just get lost planning the next big push. Time fly's when your planning convoy routes and replace carrier squadron commanders. But if I work somewhere with no ac I run those batteries By God.

I can power down my wireless card. That seems to help.

I'll admit that I take longer on turns than most people. I think that I drive Chez nuts because I average at least two hours with a PBEM turn on a day when we can get multiple turns in. On other nights, I'll usually spend at least 3 hours on a turn... and still do no better than someone who returns a turn in half an hour, I'm sure. [8|]

      Vyper and cyberwop,
Check the website of your laptops make and model and fill your systems with the most memory it can hold ....that is the cheapest way to speed up your computer ....especially with video shared systems .....also check on those same websites to see if the motherboard supports higher proccessor speeds ....most do .....check to see the highest it supports and check www.pricewatch.com to see if you think its an affordabe upgrade. This holds true for all laptop, desktop and Server systems I have worked on, which numbers in the thousands now. I've been a tech for too many years :)
