Post by petri »

I feel a bit stupid [&:], but how to run a mod. I have a ModSelect.bat but it doesn't seem to be enough. From where I could find all the stuff needed?

Several sites and individuals offer files for mods.

You need to decide on the mod and then do what it requires.

Classical mods used WITP stock art - but many of the more fancy mods have art of their own for planes and ships - and a few require new map art and pwhex files. These include CHS, its variant RHS, and its variant Empires Ablaze. For these mods you must install more than just the basic data files - you also need the art - and if the map is changed - the pwhex file.

It is most confusing in the case of RHS - which has several scenarios - so an effort to make it easier has been done by the creation of an RHS Manual and even an installer switcher program. We also have several people who offer near real time installation support - if some problem occurs.

The key choice is - what mod do you want to install and play? WITP games take some time and effort - so take your time - and investigate a bit - then ask for help with whatever one you want to play. This is as good a place as any to ask - but you may also PM individuals associated with the mod you decide on - or enter threads dedicated to those mods. For example, Nemo is supporting his mod on his own current thread.

The WITP library is probably about to stop expanding - because of the advent of AE - yet several mods are still in the update process - and there is a fairly wide and rich selection available. One consideration might be - who are you going to play? If a human - the mod choice should be joint. If not a human - well you pretty much have to be Allied vs the computer - and no mod works well - not even RHS where no less than three scenarios are specifically modified to help the AI. AI is too dumb - sorry.

Thank you a lot. I'll drill deeper into the game and sort out where to go with the mods.
