You have it right - they began life with 8 single purpose guns in 4 twin mountings.

That is why I said they started as anti- surface warships - they also had serious torpedo batteries.

During WWII they changed form - losing torpedo mountings for medium and light AA - and then also
main batteries. They ended up mounting 5 inch 38 DP mounts on the main deck - twins -
and either a 40 mm twin or a 5 inch 38 DP single supermounted.

There can be confusion because the orignal guns were also 5 inch 38s - but in SP form. Since these did not
have to elevate as much - nor train or elevate as fast - they could be lighter in weight.

These ships turned out to be too heavily armed - and it was not possible to fit ASW weapons at all - in spite of all mods
showing them so fitted.

Similarly - NOT ONE wartime US DD of the modern sort (ancient 4 pipers are a different story - so are DEs) ever fitted
Hedgehog - in spite of all forms of WITP saying otherwise. Mousetrap was fitted to 12 ships - and failed so badly it was removed.

Our new ship data will be significantly more correct for smaller ships than has ever been the case so far before.

I think the names of standard DC patterns might better be changed to

pattern of 14 small DC (vice 12 - no change in values)
pattern of 13 large DC (vice 12 - no change in values)

and possibly

pattern of 5 small DC (vice 4 - no change in values)
pattern of 10 small DC (vice 8 - no change in values)

to better reflect USN and RN practice. The outer dimenstions of the affected area do not change -
and the basic probability of damage remains that medium patters are twice as likely to hit as small ones -
while heavy patterns are about three times as likely to hit as small ones.

RE: 7.9 comprehensive update: NON AI scenarios uploading

Post by el cid again »

I took the time to test - and review - and do some cosmetic improvements - since this may be the last version.

I need to look at a couple of AI only matters - so these scenarios will follow.

Non AI scenarios are packaged and in the upload process to the primary distribution list. Posting to the RHS site and incorporation in the RHS installer/switcher will follow in due course. Until that happens you need to get these files from someone on the primary list.

ETA for AI scenarios one day.

I reviewed a couple of matters related to AI scenarios - in addition to having folded in some matters that only impacted AI scenarios already.
The review involved changing a location in the USSR - which for mysterious reasons gets attacked by Japanese bombers in AI sceanrios (in spite of Russia being passive). I reverted to a stock configuration of where locations are - and are not - near Vladivostok. Our theory this was a border issue may be incorrect - but using stock configuration should work. This change means I must reissue the AI oriented Economic Utility - which is right for RHSAIO and RHSMAIO - RHSCAIO is wierd and the economic utility is close but not perfect.

The other item reviewed is related to initial minelaying. It was said Japanese invasion groups ran into their own mines - and I do not see how that is possible? There is not a single minelaying TF or sub ML TF - and almost no TF with any mine bearing ships to load them. Even so - I came up with a brute force fix: remove all ships with mines from starting TFs - and that should prevent their being dropped - which might happen if a ship with mines enters an enemy harbor I suppose.

These changes ONLY occurred in the AI scenarios.

At this time ALL revised 7.9 file sets have been sent to the primary distribution list.

I have a partial update for Levels 5 and 6 - but only users of them get them - and only when Mifune returns will they post to the RHS site. These do NOT include ASW/Submarine durability changes - but DO include lots of eratta or enhancements which were easy to fold in.
That means Level 6 is an option for those who want the old submarine/ASW model and the RHS ship track system. Level 6 is also likely very similar to an RHSAE version - since we are not likely to have the Magagascar mini map (unless we get an artist).
