In 1 month and 2 days...

Post by Brother Jayne »

It will have been a year since I played this game and put it back on my shelf, waiting for the patch.
Not to be a "problem customer," but that is kind of ridiculous, especially from a company that until recently I had considered to have excellent support staff. Could we please, please get realistic release dates? I quit playing when I heard about the magic 1.03 was going to work on the game, supposedly right around the corner, and had I known it would be a year, I would have still been playing.

Please guys?
Seriously

Seems to me that if the manual is what's holding up the patch then I am guessing that the manual
seems to have a lot of areas that are being worked on, in order to coincide with the patch, obviously.
We have to perservere with more than our average patience. Let's pass our time with other games.
I myself, just purchased Carriers at War.

Hi

I dont know whats holding the patch up..but they better clean up the mess they made in the russian 1941 OBs..that area of the game is a complete mess..the list is too long to tell you whats wrong with it ..I could spend a good part of this page writing it up but needless to say I ended up having to make custom russian obs for a 1941 LCG..thats how bad it is!

I dont care how long the patch takes as long as they do it properly, to pay attention to detail and clean it up.

I must agree on some of your arguments too.
The OOBs generally over all timespans contain quite some bugs.

Last night I found again some units that havent enough carriers.
Like the units a 6 SP and the carriers have only 3 SPs.

I also found errors in the compostion of german forces similar to those mentioned.
Guns with not enough transports and units with too much vehicles in their company, like 5 transports for 4 platoons.

However I still love this game. ;-)

That will be true with the new patch.  One strenght point of carrier or truck can handle two strength points of infantry.  That wasn't true before, although, as you noted, it was true for tanks.

Have you guys been paying attention to the patch updates I've posted in the other thread? We have the final manual done, Jason just reviewed it and is reviewing the final file list now as well, we are going to release this week definitely and very likely before mid-week.

I know I never posted that v1.03 would be available a year ago. Considering that this game release was made available exactly one year and four days ago, I highly doubt that anyone was talking about v1.03 at that point, four days after the initial release.

What I do know is that v1.03 was handed off to us about two months ago. Because it contained substantial manual changes, we had to put it in the manual queue. That's a pretty darn full queue. We brought in an extra manual editor to speed up the process since our normal editor was too busy. It then went to layout, which is another full queue. It's now done with layout and we're doing the final few steps before release. That's the story of v1.03.

The beta brigade was formed at the end of June 07. We started working on 1.02 immediatly. That one wieghed in at around 12 megs. Then we started working on 1.03 at the begining of Aug. 07 that means we started playtesting scenarios going through the oob's for errors making sure the graphics where right ( Imagine your getting a Sherman tank for the next turn and a truck appears ) Checking weapon sounds looking through the manual for mistakes and how it reads. taking and editing pictures for the manual. designing new units. creating new EXE's ( That's what the Legion is for :) ) all this while the real world is spinning around us. Some became grandfathers, some got new jobs, some got ill and couldn't work, some moved to new homes, and then there was mother nature throwing fits. Snowstorms, tornados, floods and a few poweroutages, holidays and vacations all in all it's been a hell of a year and we did it for free [;)] I would suggest if you have a dialup connection to pony up and get DSL before you try and download this one [:D]
I also know all the gamers appreciate the efforts the Legion and Beta Brigade have put into making the Matrix version of CS the Bestes and the Badest

You are right but in my case they were trucks and 3 trucks dont carry a 6 SP platoon.

Hi

I dont think anyone was trying to critize the work that was being done..I think theres a lot of commited gamers to this product..as I said earlier Im quite happy the patch takes longer if thats what it takes to make the OBs smoother and get some of the bugs out..

I guess it just came across as a bit of surprise with the bugs in the 41 Russian OBs..the work put into it was great but it was a little dissapointing.

That being said it seems if there are going to be that many variety of OBs its going to take a longer time to sift through them and get them sorted out and more likelihood that there will be mistakes in them so we really are down to 2 options.

If Matrix wants to continue adding variety of OBs to the CS series that is fine than here is what I propose.

Option 1
Since we have a bunch of people who are more commited to this game than church than why not ask us for help in editing the OBs and and getting the bugs out of them. You can have 2-3 guys looking for the mistakes and than you can show 2-3 guys how to fix the OB error..it cant be that hard to switch a T-26-A for a T-26-C..these are'nt functional errors..there just organizational errors with the wrong units in them..

Option 2 is do we really need battleships and crusiers in EF and WF..these units played such a minor role on eastern front and on the western front after the normandy campaign was done they did not play a significant role..so maybe the OBs need to be paired down to the basics and let individuals use there creative minds to create there own unique OBs..

Just some thoughts and ideas

I, for one, certainly appreciate all the hard work of ALL involved in bringing the patch to fruition.

I too appreciate your hard labor! I wasn't bitching about the quality or quantity of effor put forth, I was merely saying that I have delayed playing for allmost a year now because I was under the impression that the patch was just around the bend

It's a thankless job being involved in patching.
I appreciate our moderators and those working hard to provide updates to a truly classic series of wargames.
Thank you for your hard and continued work.[&o]
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?
