Crusaders were designed to engage enemy AFV's, and to be the exploitation group in a breakthrough offensive.  They were good tanks to be used in the African Desert, not so much in built up or jungle terrain.  Their armor wasn't really any worse than contemporary German tanks and was better than Italian or Japanese, and the 2 lb gun had good penetrating ability (but no HE capability).  Rommel thought well enough of them to re-equip abandoned Crusaders and put them to use in his own units.

Was it the crusader that was prone to throw its tracks?

The early 'Cruiser' tanks were known for throwing tracks, I belive the problem had been solved by the time the Crusader came on line.

Sorry, I cant seem to load these pics, if someone is able, i could email them and they could use their highly superior skills to post them

What's the problem?? [&:]

Are they too big (>200kB), the wrong type (not .bmp, .gif or .jpg) or is it just finger trouble (you posted the first picture OK)?
Cheers,
Reg.

Reg,

When I click on the "Add Image" icon I get the [img] [img] entry but no pictures appear.

On a Start Thread you get a different way to load an image.

And being a certified Luddite I found hitting it with a hammer dident work either. ( My knowledge of how computers works is knowing that if they are plugged into the power they should work!!!)

I'll sent them to wild willie once I decrypt his address.[&o]

Reg,

When I click on the "Add Image" icon I get the Image

JeffK,

I'm going to apologise in advance. Please excuse me if I pitch this at too low a level but even if you find it too simplistic, someone else out there will find it useful.

The Image button allows you to insert an link to picture you have posted on the internet somewhere. An example is your ISP home page
or one of those free file hosting sites. You will need to know the URL of where the picture file is located and insert it between the Image tags but I won't cover that here.

The process to upload a single file to the Matrix server and display it in a forum post at the bottom (under the text) is as follows... (see screenshot below)

First click one of the 'Post Reply', 'Reply' 0r 'Quote' buttons and then....

1. Click on the link at the bottom.

2. When the requestor comes up, Click on the browse button to select the file. (Note the acceptable file types).

3. Select a file. Note the file extensions and the different size files for the same image. (Personally I prefer .png files but the forum doesn't support them).

4. Click OK to after selecting the file.

5. After the file name appears in the window, Click OK to start the upload.

5A. The upload requestor appears. Just wait until it turns into a 'Upload Successful' requestor and click the OK button to close the requestor.

6. Select the 'Embed Picture in Post' checkbox to make the image appear in the post. Otherwise you will only get a link named 'Attachment (1)"

7. Add your text (which will all appear above the image) and Click OK to submit your post.

All done!!!!

Editing is similar except you have the option to delete images and change the setting of the 'Embed Picture' checkbox. You'll soon figure out how it works.

Best of luck.

And for the other side of the coin we have a IJ tank. Look at how tiny this thing looks! Looks like a toy kit you could buy years ago in the back of comic books advertising everything from Polaris Subs to tanks for 1.99!

That would appear to be a tankette not a tank. The Japanese had several tanks and several Tankettes. The Tankettes as I recall all were armed with machine Guns. By WW2 the tanks proper were armed with small cannon, cant remember off hand if 37mm or 45/47 mm, I think towards the end they had 57 mm guns as well.

They also, as i recall, had armored transport for heavy guns. Some of those were pretty small too.

Did you know Japan also had armored personnel carriers and armored Amphibious vehicles?

Dosnt matter to me if it is called a tankette or a portable coffin :} thats about as useful as it looks. Hell it dosnt look like more then one person can even fit in it. No IJ armored vehicles as I recall were notable for thier performance. I do recall playing Steel Panthers years ago and the IJ had a medium tank that wasnt too shabby, but the rest of thier armored inventory was junk in my humble opinion.

Irrespective any weapon can kill a opponent if he cannot counter it. I also recall reading about Mujis in Afganistan during the Soviet occupation using copies of pre WW2 british rifles hand made in Pakistan.

To get round the variety of small tankettes, tanks, and other carriers covering as tanks etc etc the first CW AFV in AE will be something called

Improvised AFV (Lgt)
Improvised AFV (Hvy)

Basically they are trucks or carriers with a rifle calibre machine gun.

The only distiction between the Lgt and Hvy is the eventual upgrade path.

The Lgts upgrade to Stuarts and follow that path

The Hvy's have 2 options

The Aus path - Matilda/Grant etc
The NZ/Brit path - Vickers Tankettes/Valentine/Lee/Grant/Sherman

In gerneral the NZ/Brit path has smaller available numbers so regiments will have different tanks available at times.

When you're the only one with armored vehicles, though, to your opponent they are still tanks.

OK Here are JefK's pictures.

He provided me with detailed discriptions of all the vehicles/AC but I do not have time right now to name them individually.

This is what JefK wrote as a caption to the images:[/align] [/align]All of these aircraft are at the Temora Aviation Museum and are regularly flying.[/align]Even the Catalina which looks worse for wear but the Matt finish was to avoid searchlight reflection[/align] [/align]
Temora has a rich and noteworthy aviation history having been home to the No. 10 Elementary Flying Training School (10 EFTS) set up by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in May 1941. No 10 EFTS was the largest and longest lived of the flying schools established under the Empire Air Training Scheme during World War Two (WWII). [/align]Throughout WWII more than 10,000 personnel were involved at the school with upwards of 2,400 pilots being trained. At its peak the unit contained a total of 97 de Havilland Tiger Moth aircraft. Four satellite airfields were set up around the Temora district to cope with the demand to train RAAF pilots.[/align][/align] [/align]CA-16 Wirraway[/align]Wirraway BF-F was built in 1944 and saw limited action on Bouganville with 5 Sqn RAAF[/align] [/align]Vickers Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII[/align]The Spitfire Mk VIII was the last aquired by the RAAF and arrived in April 1945, it was not rebuilt until required as an instructional airframe.[/align] [/align]Lockheed Hudson III[/align]The Hudson was one of 247 received by the RAAF, A16-112 was received on 5/12/41 ans saw ASW service with 14, 32 & 6 Sqn in Western Australia, the East Coast and Milne Bay.  It is painted in the colours of another 6 Sqn aircraft which saw action during the Battle of Milne Bay.[/align] [/align]CA-13 Boomerang[/align]They have little background to this Boomerang, I know it spent 20+ years inrestoration[/align] [/align]Ryan STM S2[/align]This aircraft served in the Dutch east Indies and escaped to Australia.
