What about solo play?

From the legendary team at 2 by 3 Games comes a new grand strategy masterpiece: Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Taking gamers back to the American Civil War, this innovative grand strategy game allows players to experience the trials and tribulations of the role of commander-in-chief for either side. Historically accurate, detailed and finely balanced for realistic gameplay, War Between the States is also easy to play and does not take months to finish.

What about solo play?

Post by GBS »

Granted, AIs can't compete like humans do. Everyone knows that so I would like to ask, just what can I expect from this AI? For various reasons I have to play solo. I see critisism here about AACW's AI but it gave me fits so fun can be had. From the play testers, I would like to hear some frank discussion about what this AI can do. Thanks.

The AI is one of the best i've seen, much better than in A World Divided on whose engine the game is based.
Playing in a higher level than challenging will give you a very tough opposition. I specially liked the CSA AI, be prepared to counter attacks if you don't properly garrison the areas you take.

Does the AI actually play better at higher levels like the Galactic Civilizations AI or does it just get more bonuses?

Every level increases transport, supply and garrison requirements. Gary made the AI very aggressive for both sides. With the added supply and transport abilities the AI becomes very tough to beat. Most new testers can't beat the AI on normal (no bonus) for months and months.

I have found the AI to be pretty good. I usually play on Challenging and the outcome is frequently in doubt until the end.

I play at a pretty high level in a casual style, not memorizing all the minute details, so if the latter is the way you play you may find it easier than I do.
