Question and suggestion for next patch

From the legendary team at 2 by 3 Games comes a new grand strategy masterpiece: Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Taking gamers back to the American Civil War, this innovative grand strategy game allows players to experience the trials and tribulations of the role of commander-in-chief for either side. Historically accurate, detailed and finely balanced for realistic gameplay, War Between the States is also easy to play and does not take months to finish.

Question and suggestion for next patch

Post by incbob »

First let me say another 5 out of 5 for Gary. I bought on faith alone and was rewarded. This is another one of those games that seems easy, but has a world of depth to it.

In addition, it could well be, at least from the gameplay stand point, one of the best historic civil war games ever.

Now.... that said.

I understand that realistically the chances of Britain or France ever recognizing the CSA was extremely slim, but am I missing it in the game or does it not exist? I would love to see later a variant where, through some method, the CSA could influence this and try to get it to occur.

I would also like to see an estimated "Supply required" next turn. This would of course just be for supply that units use, but would still give a great idea of how much is needed and where you stand.

I would also, in the future, like to see a way to "name" our own armies.

If you mouseover the supply number in the military forces screen, you will see the number of supplies needed to supply your current forces. However this is a simplified value, and assumes all units are in supply cost 1 areas with no available resources.

Intervention is not high on our list as we intentionally left it out. But if we were willing to add an optional rule to deal with the chance of European intervention, how would you see integrating intervention into the current system? I doubt we could bring in European armies, so the impact would have to be in other areas. Also, what choices would the south have that would impact intervention. I don't rule out adding something in a future patch, but I'd want to have a better idea of what would interest people and still fit into the current system.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Perhaps something equivalent to the Union's EP button - some action the South could take only after a strategic victory and having more than a certain number of PP's

I was thinking along this line as well.
Something along the lines of the CSA must have a certain level of PP and they must achieve a strategic victory.

As for the effect of recognition I agree with Joel and I don't want to see European units anywhere on the map and I really don't think the Britain or France would have ever gone to war.

However, recognition could have allowed them to increase their aid to the CSA some of the possibilities are:
*****decreased cost for raiders
*****increased free trade for the south

Also, while I am here is there a way to increase the rail in a region?
