For the V 1.1 Patch of AE.. i Would like to Surgest a History Button to be enabled.
It can Record things like:
Bombay Fall into Japanese Hands at 25th September 1942... ect ect
OR
A History Button on Every Ship, So when you click on that Button it will tell you how many and what type of Ships and Aircraft that Ship have Killed ect..
BB Yamato
9th April, Sunk BB Mississippi
10th April, Sunk CA Australia
18th April, Shot Down 5 B26
ect ect
RE: History
If you have a list of items sorted by date, you could put it in a PDF and share it with everybody. That way they could just look at it.

RE: History
It's an interesting idea, but I think it would require too much of a change to the code to be feasible. A lot more data would have to be stored on each ship. It also would be innaccurate since most ships succumb to their damage some time after a battle.
I like the idea of an in game notepad, but the ability to have players enter text information is fairly limited. It may not be very possible within the game as it is without some major work. Just one of those things that the original game was not designed with that possibility in mind, so adding it later could be difficult.

Ah true, but would it be possible to get copies of the sigint and combat reports written into a separate archived file which could be read say 6 months later?

RE: History
I do that seperately on my own, at least with the combat reports. I have created a PBEM Combat Report folder for my game with Chez so I can rename and save each day's combat report. To make it easier to use, I have subfolders for each month (under yearly folders).

RE: History
I have an excel file formatted for such an use, with several sheets in it : one for Combat Reports, one for Operations reports, one for Siging, and three more for the A/C activity, production & VP evolution. For the reports, it's a quick process : open the report, CTRL-A, CTRL-C, close the report, and CTRL-V in the excel file ; it's usually done in ten seconds per report. The search options may be set so as to process horizontally instead of vertically - that way, you can use the search related to a ship to get a "history" of its battles without needing to open a series of files from different folders.[;)]

I don't suppose you would be willing to share that? If so, could you email it to nomad(dot)pbem(at)gmail(dot)com please?

RE: History
Better than that, I could upload it. I had to clean it of my current datas and transfer it from my laptop to desktop (for security reasons, I avoid connecting to internet from my laptop - I hate viruses and intrusion attempts).
Two words of caution :
- I'm not an expert of using Excel, so the automatic formula's I've used could probably be streamlined a bit. I can't either certify it's error-free ; in fact, I can certify there're some errors in the first ten days in some places, I just haven't corrected them yet
- I'm using Excel 2007, it might not open with older versions of the program
General information
The file has six sheets :
- one sheet each for Sigint, Operations and Combat Reports, with dates on top of the columns - dates represent the day where the data is accessible, not the day when the events/combats happened (it starts at 41/12/08)
- one sheet each for Victory Points, Production, and Aircraft activity, all starting at 41/12/07 ; some automatic formulas are used to give both the evolution from previous day, and from 10 days earlier. In a sense, this second calculation is for more easily seeing trends and general situation (using comparrison from day-to-day only is often somewhat confusing, given wild differences between two given days, sometimes)
In order to fill them, I simply copy/paste the content of the report files in the first three sheets, and then manually enter the values in the last three sheets (using screenshots of the Intel screen and Production screen). The whole process takes maybe two minutes, or three if you include a double-check for the VP/Prod/AC values.
In the VP sheet, you might notice another automatic formula : FOW. It gives you the difference between the total VP for both sides, and the VP calculated using the detailed splits. It gives you the total VP you've earned from sunken ships whose death is not yet public. Very useful when it comes to determining the fate of hurt biggies (if the FOW line suddenly goes up by 700 points, then you know you just sent two more CVs under the wave).[;)]
All right, apparently I can't upload it, because it's too big : I'm limited to 200Ko uploads, while the file is heavy : 951 Ko. Which leads to my third word of caution : the file is heavy, and I don't know if it'll reach too big a size along the game. For example, in the first campaign where I'm using it, after 40 days of data the file reaches 1.2 Mo, approximately 250 Ko more than the empty file, or ~6 Ko/day and 2.2 Mo/year. In theory, it'll reach 10 Mo in March '46.
Does anybody know how to upload bigger files ?
In the meantime, I'll send it by email, and I keep it at the disposal of just anybody who wants it : just send a request at lvandamme@hotmail.com , and I'll send it given a reasonable delay. Or leave your email address here, but it might take a bit more time before I notice.

RE: History
I still think the idea of the simple history file as described by Japan at the toop of this thread is a great idea. The deatailed history for each ship is a good idea for future releases (ie. WitP II), but certainly the simple 'Singapore captured by Japanese' should be do-able.
Sorry, i'm just not a fan of all these add on files- makes game time too much like work for me!

RE: History
Sure it would be simpler and better (hopefully), but it's a lot of work. I'd better have the developpers focus on game mechanics or AI-attitude first. Database & OOB precision, as well as history-tools, may be made by fans without touching the game's engine.
RE: History
Ambassador, i have something very similar but not as extensive as yours. Id be very interested in having a look at it too. With Office 2007 it gives the option to save as an office 97-2003 document if you press the office icon at the top left and choose save as... I run Office 2007 so i wouldnt have a prob though

My inbox is empty - and I only had one message before I deleted it.[&:]
I'm sending the file, however I'm at work, so it'll be the 2007 version (from my mailbox).

As long as it is only that, you will be able to use witpDecoder. It logs capturing of bases in one of its database tables but is currently has no UI to show it. So for your file you would have to dump the database to csv.but certainly the simple 'Singapore captured by Japanese' should be do-able.
