Any map editor?

Post by echoco »

Hello, is there any kind of a map editor for the game? I've downloaded the ship/plane graphic editor and tried opening the map with it but not sure its not all that useful, the game just changed what little test editing I did back to original

Have anyone tried to change the map yet? How? With what program? What to consider?

Also if all else fails I'll try duplicate the ship/plane editor for the map, anyone have a clue how the ship/plane graphic editor works?

I don't believe there is any map editing capability - that is something offered in the "bigger and better" application - War in the Pacific.

I have only downloaded the icon editor, but never really played with it - I must say the 3.2 update is a big improvement over the previous versions in both the map display and the icons (I recently tried running the old version in dosbox - wow, how did I ever manage it [&:].)

Thanks for the reply, I was affraid it might not be possible to modify, couldn't figure out how to edit the path even if map could be changed.

I'm a little intimidated by War in the Pacific, a friend of mine got it when it came out and I heard good things but reading the forum I think its too detailed for my taste, but then again I used to think PacWar was too steep to learn.

I have a copy of Witp, and found it very detailed - many more ship types (so many auxillary types, wow - mine sweepers, mine layers, etc.)   I have done some of the Guadacanal scenario, but I'm still a big Pacwar fan - it offers a level of abstraction that hides the minor ship classes and lets you deal with the major combatants - at a price, the realism cannot claim to be what Witp has, but stategically it still is a reasonable simulation and an enjoyable game - IMHO. [;)]

I also like the abstraction in PacWar, sometimes I want a little more control but the game has about the right balance for me.

I've been looking at WitP again and I'm getting tempted. Do you know how moddable it is? Most important for me is to create a new map and get rid of most of the HQs. I want to mod it into a Sino/japanese Russo/Japanese war.
