Anyone can help me?

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Anyone can help me?

Post by mssmsoft »

Hi, I'm the author of the CD-Box cover for SPWAW.
But I never played SPWAW because I cannot download it.
This is my problem: I can download it only using a proxy connection and restart is not supported.
Connection with the server break down after 3 hours (ever).
To download entire game in 3 hours the download speed should be 32Kb/sec.
Maximum speed that I have is 18Kb/sec (medium).
All my attempts stopped in the middle of the exe file.
I need help!
To matrix games: please, can you split the exe in 4 parts?
To all people: can someone send me the game via e-mail? (I have another account and I can receive big messages at that address, about 20Mb for each one)
Or, can someone uploading the game, splitted, on another server?

Thanks,
Massimo

Paul,
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe each file could be 90 to 99 MB to allow the game to be put on multiple Zip100 Disks for those of us without CD burners. We could distribute the game to our friends that way.

The smaller files would actually help out your server DL jam-up problems. I'll bet a lot of you traffic is actually people trying multiple DL's as each one fails after a few hours and they can't/don't resume but simply start over. 99 MB blocks would probably always get through on the first try.

Did you try using download manager like Net Vampire, GetRight, Reget etc? Afaik all these programs work in such way that they keep a temporary file during downloading and when connection breaks they resume all by themselves or when you open new connection manually and then tell the program to continue. then when the d/l manager is finished it copies & renames the temp file to wherever you originally wanted to d/l it. So even if your proxy server does not support restart it *should* be possible to continue even days later if the d/l manager still has it's temp file left.
Please correct if I talk nonsense, but having 10Mbit/s line...these problems are bit uncommon for me Image

It is wrong. I try these DL manager but when them restart the DL restart from the begin of file because with proxy (THIS proxy) they can only GET the entire file.

Don't restart the download in the normal way... You don't even need to go back to the download page.

Double-click the partially downloaded file in your "download folder" and the DL manager program (any of them) will resume the download from where it left off. Image

I found the problem with my DL. The Dl manager does not know the file size and then always restart from the begin.
Please, can anyone give me the exact byte size for the complete v4.0 exe?
Thanks a lot,
Massimo
