Japanese OOB Additions in Orange Dawn

Post by FDRLincoln »

Additions so far:

Conjectural CV Zuikaku, built in 1928, an enlarged Hosho, faster with a bit more protection, with 36 aircraft.
CA Kinugasa, third unit of the Aoba class, built in 1928
Conjectural CL Ayase class, two units Ayase (begins game at Nagasaki having just been fitted out) and Agano (built in 1928). These are enlarged and slightly improved versions of the Yubari.

Several additional units of the W5 minesweeper class are included.

I am working on a large conjectural submarine cruiser, as well as sub chasers and patrol craft to combat the Allied submarine menace.

The Allies will get new goodies too but I want to complete all the Japanese additions first.

I am looking forward to this. I'd volunteer to help with testing, but have a son due in under three months and will struggle to cope with my existing games (and the AE promises I have made...).

I have added 10 conjectural large subchasers for the Japanese...I will try to post a screenshot of their stats tomorrow. Light gun loadout, depth charges, 21 knot speed.

Now thinking of ideas for a sort of super-submarine cruiser...something like the conjectural Nagasaki class in the Great Pacific War mod. It would have long range, heavy guns (8 inch?), OK speed, plenty of torpedoes, but lacking in manueverability of course.

Conjectural Japanese cruiser submarine added to the game, the KG class. This is similar in concept to the British M class, or the WW2 French Surcouf. It has 2 8-inch guns in a mounting, large torpedo compliment and range, but lacks manueverability. One available at-start, one enters the game in 1928.

Added a conjectural Japanese "war mobilization" destroyer to the game, similar to the Mutsuki type but with a stronger hull (1 point increase in durability), less speed (34 knots instead of 37, reflecting less high-powered and cheaper machinery), and rearranged gun layout (4 4.7 inch in 2 twin mounts, one foreward, one aft). One prototype begins the game available, 11 others come in at various times. This reflects the need to replace war losses of older destroyers, but with something cheaper to produce than the Special Type.

War mobilization minelayers and minesweepers also added.

I think I'm about done with Japanese fleet additions, though if anyone has some interesting conjectural units to suggest, feel free to speak up....
