Greetings from Origins

Post by Javakamp »

Hello from beautiful downtown Columbus Ohio, site of the Origins Game fare.

The Matrix crew is here is full force. I want to thank Eric for spending 20 minutes talking to me about WBTS.

After we finished I crossed my fingers and asked if they had a demo version of AE. Much to my pleasure the answer was yes. Someone else already the demo up running through the 1st turn so in less than a minute I was watching AE run through a turn. I missed the bombing of Pearl, but got to watch most of the rest. The graphics were great. But I couldn't wait till the turn ended and I could look around. I was like a kid in a candy store. The map was awesome looking. I must have spent 5 minutes just looking at the map. Unfortunately Joe had stepped away so I could not talk to him about it.

I must have spent 20 minutes just looking around and poking around at the new and old screens just looking at what may have changed. It was like Christmas. It was like heaven. It was like Christmas in heaven.

But all to soon I had to leave to get to my next event. I may have to go by the booth many more times just to play around with AE. Perhaps next time Joe will be there and he can show me more cool stuff.

So needless to say I'm more excited about AE than before. I even tried to get Eric to let me place a preorder, but alas the answer was no.

So eat your heart out guys.

I just got out of the hospital after a stay of 23 days.  I was hoping it would be out by the time I got out, but now that I am out, I am not in quite so much of a hurry {pain and thoughts slowwed and dulled by Norco would make jumping right in a bigger disaster than I think it would be.

{from Joe at Origins)Gary's new ACW game is the main new released game. The only other beta I've seen (besides AE) is a new "Flashpoint" series game about the Arab-Israeli wars.

I got to spend about about a half hour with Joe today, so he could show me even more stuff. Thanks Joe.

Let me think of some of the highlights of what I saws. Some of these things have already been posted on the forums, but I'll mention then any way. This is from memory so I will not guarantee it is totally correct.

1. Pilots now have several more skills for different areas, including bombing, strafing, and different forms of naval attacks.
2. You can now split patrol squadrons to perform search and ASW missions. Squadrons may also be assigned sectors.
3. You can assign the way ships are repaired to get key ships repaired faster.
4. There are many more bases, and many existing bases have had their potential sizes updated. There are at least 3 more new dots in the Solomans and at least two have potential sizes of 5.
5. Several islands have been added off the US West coast that have bases or can be built up into bases.
6. You can now adjust the amount of recommended supplies above what the AI has set. Then the AI will moves supplies from other nearby bases if they have a surplus.
7. Cargo ships now have separate capacity's for cargo, troops, or liquid cargoes.
8. With the off map areas you can now sail to the Eastern US, Great Britain, or the Cape of Good Hope. You can even sent ships around the Panama Far East to arrive at India.
9. You will be able to ship planes on the decks of tankers.
10. I got to play with setting way points and patrol zones. Very cool.
11. Pilots in training are now tracked for how long they have been training, from 1 to 12 months. Only pilots that have been training for 12 months will be assigne to squadrons, unless you don't have any. Then pilots with shorter training times will be used, but they will have lower experience.

Well it's late ant that's all I can remember for now.

I hope you guys enjoy the small peek I'm able to provide.

Thanks Sven.  Thanks Gem.

Hospital food isn't food.  Hospital sleep isn't sleep.  And 23 days is a long time without either.  But I have another few weeks before i start feeling good.  Right now I cannot spend much more than an hour or two upright and that takes a lot out of me.  But, I am out, the food is better{even though I can't eat much} and the bed is FAR more comfortable.  And I can poke in on the best forum that has ever grown a couple of times a day.

Right, no downloadable demo, but for those who are at Origins, we can let them work hands on with the latest beta version.

Does anyone who went to Origins have any info on Close Combat: Wacht Am Rhein? Or is that a phantom as of now?

Not a phantom, we were demoing it at Origins in fact, with Jim's help.
