[:@] [:@]I'm back on my soap box as I have two subs there to take a frag off to re-build later if this happens. I had problems like this in my longest PBEM to date (ended in mid-43 as Allies). I'm looking forward to an improved search routine in AE.

Operation: Danish Gambit
With Canoerebel (Dan) using various colors along with planets for his various operations against John III, I've dug out one of my old Chess books and will pick out random strategies/openings from it to throw Damian off. [:D] I'm using this name as he will think something is up with my Dutch forces. Psych Warfare!!
This plan will be another hit on his strategic assets.
At Rangoon, I have 22 Spitfires to escort 24 B-17D, 12 IL-4C, and 12 SB-2 to hit the 64 HI at Bangkok (6 hexes away). The turn after, I will move my bombers out and move in some Hurricanes and part of AVG from Mandalay for the expected counter strike. I have Catalina's doing Recon right now.
In China, I will use 48 SB-2 to hit the 103 HI at Hong Kong. There will be no Recon and with their experience below 40, I don't expect much actual damage. There are no planes based here.
In Russia, I have been sending SB-2s on Recon mission along some of his bases. He moved around some of his smaller BF/EAB and based fighters along some of his bases after I damaged over 100 Oil at a base. However, he left Sapporo undefended and the 101 HI will be hit by 150 SB-2M from Khabarovsk. I may hit the already damaged HI 42(79)at Vladivostok with IL-2 DBs from Iman at extended range as he has no known fighters over the base yet.
I don't expect to achieve too much actual damage. Rather, I want him to feel he needs to spread out his fighters to protect his economy from being damaged.
Comments??

Comments:
I had my 3 American CVs heading back to San Fran when he took Canton Island. They were low on fuel and could have not intervened with his transports heading for Christmas. I get CV Yorktown at San Diego in 2 days and she will move to San Fran. Then, I will make up my 4 CV TF (1CV, 2CA, 1CL, 6DD). They will head to Pearl.
I have moved in and/or rested my LBA to be used in Operation: Danish Gambit. They will attack next turn unless severe weather hits too many of the bases.
I now have a 30 plane group (3 squadrons) worth of Russian Pe-2 (DB) resting in India. These nasty guys carry 2 x 500kg AP bombs out to 4 hexes. I hope to send them south to give Damian even more things to be concerned about. [:D]
I have 6 out of 10 Russian DDs safely in US waters. However, there are 4 more to get to safety in the next few weeks. I want them because they carry a nice load of mines, decent ASW & AA, but very short legs. They will come in handy around Hawaii (and eventually the Line Islands).

His Christmas Island invasion TF is now 3 hexes SW with KB 5 hexes south of Christmas. He should land next turn and probably take it as there is no assault value in my BF. However, I had two frags transported by two large fleet subs the last few days and they are headed back to LA. The BF will be rebuilt at a later date (when I have extra aviation support to spare).

Danish Gambit sounds like a good plan to me.
As to the Pe-2s. Don't forget that they'll carry a single 500kg bomb out to 6 hexes. Personally I never hesitate to use them out to 6 hexes as those 500 Kg bombs will penetrate ANYTHING the Japanese have ( including CAs, BBs and CVAs ) and they are pretty much immune to interception if you are willing to accept low per sortie hit percentages.
Good work with the Soviet DDs. Those are some VERY useful ships. personally I think that on a per ship, plane and tank basis the Soviets definitely have the best kit ( pound per pound ).

Well, that's that settled then.

Comments:
CA Louisville is spotted 8 hexes away from Christmas Island by Recon Kates from KB. She is then sent back to Pearl. I had thought about a quick run in to attack his invasion force.
4 Russian DDS that are left holed up at Magadan head south. They will go through Paramushiro Jima to Petropavlosk where a Russian TK will have unloaded fuel from Dutch Harbor. They will then run east to meet the Replenishment TF that has 4 other Russian DDs that had escaped to the north and refueled at Nome. Hopefully, his actions are done in the north and they will join their brethren.
The planes for Operation Danish Gambit have all been moved into position and will attack next turn.

He has landed the Sasebo 3 & 8 CSNLF, but no BF/EAB units for aviation support. I would imagine they are on their way.
Comments:
CV Yorktown has arrived at San Diego and a few DDs will escort her to San Fran. There she will join her 3 sisters. After the New Year, they will each form a CV TF and head for Pearl.
My attacks on his HI have their desired affect and now he has to keep at least his Nates and possibly other second tier fighters on CAP over his industrial centers.
Damian writes that he has re-thought his attack on Christmas Islands and will do something else. He feels that with my Russian subs heading for Pearl, he will not be able to keep this base supplied. He admits that his attack on Russia was not well thought out.

End of Month
The air losses for the month were: Allied - 691 and Japan - 477.
Winston is requiring CL & 2DD to be withdrawn by the end of 1/42. Thankfully, with Melbourne being added as an exit point for the British, this will be easier to accomplish. I feel I cannot disregard this even though I have the PP to cover the cost (250/day)
New Toys - I now get Sea Hurricanes (20/mo); F4F-4 Wildcats (96/mo); Spitfires VB (16/15 per month); R-12 (30/mo); TBM-1 Avenger (72/mo); and Grant tanks (27/mo). It will take over 3 months to get enough to replace the Valentine III in my two British tank brigades in India. Hopefully, I can get one done before he invades (if he does).
12 days to the mega-reinforcement of ships and aviation support units at San Fran. This will truly kick off my active defense of the eastern part of the Pacific and transfer of supplies, fuel ,and oil to Nz/Oz. My initial plans are to reinforce Suva and Pago Pago islands with a fall back position French Polynesia.
The 4 American CVs are at San Fran and will be leaving in the next few days for Pearl. Where they go depends on the movements of KB. He is down to 5 CVs as Zuikaku was sent to support the Noumea invasion. CVL Kittyhawk can be used to transfer LBA as she has a capacity of 120 (but no sorties). She brought 2 SBD and 2 Wildcat squadrons to Hawaii while KB was playing transport escort.
The Americans have 4 carrier capable Wildcat squadrons. Each CV has 4 squadrons - 1 Wildcat, 2 SBD, 1 TBD. Would it be a good idea to take off a SBD and replace them with another Wildcat?? On all 4 CVs or just a few?? Comments on this idea, please.

*chuckle* I find it interesting to read your AAR with what is, essentially, the same version of the mod as I'm using. In my game as of December 20th Allied losses are over 1500 and Japanese losses are over 800. That's 2,300 vs a total of only 1100 in your game ( and I have ten days to go ).
It just goes to show you how any mod can be played very differently.
Personally I would load the carriers with 2 x Wildcat squadrons each and a single Dauntless squadron - in my PBEM 2 of my carriers have been hit 5 times by CV-based CVs. I put in a bit of work to ensure the CV-based Dauntlesses would load up on 1000lb bombs more frequently and I'm glad to say that each of those 5 hits was by a 1000lb bomb... so Dauntlesses are likely to be fairly deadly.

RE: End of Month
Cid had changed one of the two Dauntless squadrons to carry AP vs GP bomb loads as their default (a possible change for a future version of EA) in RHS. A welcomed addition to an American CV. [:D]
Right now I more concerned about American CV survivibility vs offensive firepower.

ny59giants,
Ah but what i am talking about happened with EA ( and there are no changes between my version and your version as re: those Dauntlesses)thus I think yours should fly with 1000lbers most of the time ( at normal range in any case ).
USN CV survivability - Well I think 4 USN CVs backed with BBs, CAs and CLAAs embarking 8 x F4F4 squadrons should, I think, be able to survive pretty well unless they run into the entire KB. With that said don't forget you get 50 CV-capable Corsairs and 170 Hellcats PER MONTH from January 43 so, perhaps, you might want to wait till then and hit him with a Corsair-heavy CV force ( which he will counter with ki-44 IIIs ). Ah, choices, choices.

I would drop 2 squadrons of SBD, replace with 'ccats. You want to have a little punch if you run into KB. Too bad you can't pull TBD instead. The rarely hit for me. Nice job on the AAR, looking forward more posts!
