Question regarding customization...

Post by SuluSea »

I don't PBEM so anything I change would only affect me. Can you alter details of planes , pilots, ships and other units to what you believe are the right numerical balances?
and if so how?

Thanks all[:)]

The editor won't let ya. All you can change are leader and pilot ratings, arrival dates, air unit aircraft, and the like. It shows you the equipment loadouts of aircraft assigned to air units, and you can change these, but they just go back to the default values when you try to save the database.

I guess Carrier Force is going to have a completely functional editor like the one in WitP.

Darn...... Thanks for the info my friend.

I don´t believe your friend is correct. You can go into the editor and change weapons and numbers of weapons.

Ike, you can't save the changes. The database defaults back to the hard-coded values for the aircraft type.

Unless I'm missing something.

Slots one through 20 are hard coded and will default back to original values. This is to prevent cheating in PBEM I assume. So if you play a PBEM game remember to take and send turns in slots 1-20. [;)]

Save your modified games files in 21+ and it will keep the changes.

Are you sure? Seems to me I've tried this to no avail. I'll go have another peek. I could be wrong, of course.

More later.

Update: Sorry, they still default back to the hard-coded values for me. Have you re-opened a database that you have changed in this way and seen your new values retained?

I´m positive because i edit the number of long lances on Japanese ships and played that way in private games.

I could be wrong about the save slot numbers though. Save in 35 or above in slot number. For sure these will save your edits.

I had no problem using slot 21 as a new and modified senario 19. And I checked, the changes I made were retained.

But did you make changes to aircraft loadouts or ship armaments? This is what confuses me. I can change leader and pilot values and the changes are retained, as are such things as availability dates.

What I cannot reproduce are saves to changes in armament in the bottom portion of the screen. I am fully aware of the limitation on which slot you can save in.

If I am doing something wrong, I wish someone would educate me. Please do this. Open a database. Change numbers of guns or bombs on the first air unit you see in that category. Save it to a 21+ slot. Close it. Re-open the saved database and go to the squadron display for the one you changed. Are the values the ones you entered or the default values from the original?

Here is the akagi with some real guns. I changed them, saved the file and reopened it.

But, the aircraft details are hardcoded. changes to an air units aircraft devices will not save. I can change the aircraft type but no devices.

Exactly. Whew! Thanks, pal, I thought I was an idiot there for a minute, which meant I would have had to agree with most of the people on these forums.

And you know how disappointed I would be for THAT to happen.

IIRC, you can establish several airbases (more than one) at one hex. For example: at the Rabaul hex there are Vunakanau, Tobera and other strips in the database. Can you put them into the game at once?

It was always confusing me. Thanks for any hints in this regards.
