Can't copy game to another directory

Post by Oldguard1970 »

I read that it is wise to make copies of WITP in separate directores for each game being played.

I tried that by creating a directory called " War in the Pacific version B" into which I copied everything from the original War in the Pacific directory.

When I click on an Execute file in the new directory, I get "Fatal Error 100".

XP home version 2002 Service pack 2. WITP v 1.806

Can anyone offer guidance?

Thanks,

You've got to install it separately for each copy you want. Set the installation path to the desired destination, and the installer takes care of the registry entries and so on that make it work. Copying and pasting to a new location breaks the required links.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

I think there is one hidden file there. Open orginal WitP folder, click on Tools -> folder options -> view. Under Files and Folders -> Hidden files and folders, check show hidden files and folders. Now go back and copy everything again and it should work.

NO, do not reinstall. I have 5 separate installs running now, but only installed the game once.

i agree with Nomad here... some people can get the "reinstall" to work, but it can cause fatal errors with many others... not to mention a copy of the folder is easier and faster.

EDIT: once the copy is done, you can create a new shortcut (and name it appropriately).

Thanks guys - Nomad was correct.  Once I copied over the hidden file, the game worked just fine.  [&o]

The shortcut(renamed) also works...  (But, I feel guilty using it.  As a WITP player, I am supposed to relish the details.)
