"Busy" Sigmal/Lockup

Post by frank moore »

Recurring Problem: I'm playing version 1.23, solitaire, Opening Guns. The CP fires one artillery barrage, I get the "Busy" signal, and the game locks up. This happened when I play either side (TE or CP), and even when using resolution 1024 x 768. Sound on or sound off makes no difference. HELP! This looks like a really cool game, and I want to enjoy it.

PS: Have downloaded the updates.

I have the same problem. I play only PBEM, so when it happens I just have to start the turn over which is no big deal.

So, definitely play with autosave on, and consider turning OFF all sound and music.

Good point. I guess this game doesn't have an autosave.

The game has an autosave, and I believe it is on by default. Look in your ...Guns of August\SavedGames file; there will be a move, naval, orders and retreat autosave. Just use the "details" view window to see which is the most recent and retry by loading that save; most of the time it works for me.

Good Luck

Folks:

-  First, thanks for the pointers: I found the Autosave function.

-  But I still keep getting locked up with a "Busy" signal the first time the CP fires an artillery barrage.  Backing out and re-entering doesn't help, because when I come back in, and activate the "Retreat", "Move" or "Orders" autosave buttons, I go back to the same artillery barrage and the same lock-up.

-  This last time, I went away and did something else for ninety minutes, hoping maybe I could wait out the "Busy" signal.  Still, no avail.

This is unusual, I haven't had this problem, but since 2 of you have...What are your computer specs? What operating system are you running? What do you have in common? Have you just tried a new game to see if it repeats?

AND NOT to be a wise ass -- After the first barrage, while the busy signal is on: Did you click the arrow in the lower right of the bottom combat display box to advance to the next barrage? because the game will just sit there if you don't.

If you'd like, I started a TE game and got through a barrage, I can email you the save and you can see if it works on your set-up.

I have come across this problem as well. The game also has a nasty tendency to bomb out after 9/10 continuous turns. The only safeguard is save and save often. Incidently I am throughly enjoying the game in which deployment is 'everything'. Am still in the process of mastering the production system[:D]

Sound on or sound off makes no difference. I still hang up after the CP fires its first barrage.

Regarding restart from Autsave: I have noted three "buttons", for "Orders", "Move" and "Retreat". The "Move" and "Reatreat" buttons have carried the same time-stamp. But in either case, the restart will freeze up with the "Busy" signal after the first CP barrage.

Somthings else: I have NOT seen any "Continue" arrow in the lower right.

I'm running the game using Micrsoft Windows XP 2002. My hardware is a Gateway GT4016.

BTW, I checked on-line for updates this afternoon, and it seems I am running the most current version.

HELP!

MY BAD!

The reason I didn't see the "Continue" arrows was because of the "resolution" settings on "Control Panel" under "My Computer".

Once I re-sized the screens by adjusting the resolution, I saw those "Conitnue" arrows I was missing mefore. and she played pretty as you please.

Oh, yeah: the Russians lost Lublin and a couple of other border cities on the first move.

On, On!.

Thanks for your patience,

Yeah, my taskbar also covered this critical button -- but I had forgotten that until well after you had posted a couple of times, hope that is dpstafford's problem too.

Don't feel bad I was just going to ask about this exact problem.

I'm also having one other issues. When it comes time to activate I do not see any enemy units, when I plan offensives I do not see any enemy units. Only once I click to start the turn are there any ememy counters on the map - and then the games hangs but apparently there is a button I need to push.
