Allied Intervention against Japan

Post by Renegade »

Hi Folks,

while waiting for the Admirals Edition of WitP i come across this Forum and take a look at Warplan Orange. After I recognized this Game is quite similar to WitP I instantly bought it
[:D]

Since I´ve played WitP a lot I mostly skipped Manuel and headed directly into Action as Japan Commander against the AI. Now approx 4 Months into the War (playing Early Grand Campaign) I got 3
Questions for you:

1.) I sunk several American Ships and some Ships with Australien Names like BC Australia. So I came to the conclusion that I am from Start of the Scenario at War with the US and Australia. But what happend to the other Powers? Will the stay neutral or will they enter War at a specific Date? What I excatly wanted to know is:

a) Will the British stay Neutral in course of the War? Or will they enter the War at a specific Date? So If I don´t attack them, they don´t attack me either?

b) the same for the Dutch and French Forces?

c) since I like playing "realistic" I would like to show some Flag in Dutch Waters to show them that attacking Japan would not be a good Idea. So my Question is, could I send a Patrol in Dutch/English Waters without starting a war? Or will my Ships start to Attack Dutch/English Forces if encountered?

d) How could I Start War with these Powers? Just capture a Base? Are the linked together? Could i capture French Bases without entering War with the British / Dutch?

2) I remember slightly in Memory that somebody says Warplane Orange is a War where Resources doesn´t matter most. Japan would have enough Resources for herself without conquering the SRA. So the direct Question: Do I have enough Resources to support a 4 Year War without capturing Targets in the SRA?

3) AMC
I really must admit that I´m falling in Love with these Vessels. I mean they got a huge Endurance allowing them to strike anywhere on the Map. They are "Dirt Cheap" to produce. And they´ve got an Impressive Arnment. 15cm Guns, lot of Mines!! (Japan is really in desperate Need of ML capable Craft)and even DC. The only enemy Sub I´ve managed to sink was with a AMC. They proved to wreck Havoc on enemy Merchant Ships and even blast the Hell out of unlucky DD's. Since I like to play in a realistic way how many Ships could i convert? I usually operate them in 4 Ships in 1 Flotilla. I plan to have 32 AMC at all. Would this Number be unrealisticly high? What is the negative Aspect of Mass AMC Conversion? The Only Negative I can think off is, that during course of the War you´re running low on Merchants and so having to few AK left to support your Troops with supplies.

Thank's in Advance!

Ps: I'm quite a few Years out of school so sorry for my English

The game is japan vs The World right from the start, makes it awkward for the japanese unit at Shanghai
The game doesnt support neutrality, however the worked it out for the USSR in WITP so why not here??

Havent played this far, but with production turned off maybe sufficient supplies are factored in. If bases have resources, I would assume they need to be shipped.
3) AMC

I would deploy these in single ship TF, as Commerce Raiders this would be more like their usage. Plus if you add too many your detection rating should increase, and maybe some BC might come looking.

well, if you play against the AI, you are at war with all the allies, as in witp. so you can generally attack whoever you like. there are no neutrals. most of the chinese are fixed though, so there is not much danger from them. the only exception is soviet russia, which, as in witp, needs to be attacked to activate ( there is not automatic activation as in witp).

if you play pbem, there are houserules regarding this. generally, it is only the us vs. japan in most games.
I personally would say-> China:neutral and only in the war if a base gets attacked; Russia: neutral unless attacked; Dutch: neutral unless attacked; England and France: allied, if one gets attacked, both are at war. I also doubt that the british would have remained neutral in case of an attack on the DEI. So, if the dutch get attacked, England can enter the war whenever she wants to (including France). Of course, for the allied player, this means that the neutral forces stay out of the combat area. Shanghai is a difficult situation. In most pbem games. the japanese are allowed to evacuate their forces from shanghai. Thereafter, this base should also be neutral. The US fleet there should have to leave (political pressure by Britain and France should see to that). Commonwealth-> In the war with Great Britain. same the other way around, if you attack Rabaul, the british are in.

there is one custom made scenario where all the other nations have been removed. you can find it at spookies webpage. (book mark is somewhere on the witp forum.

regarding the aim of the game, resources do not matter, points do. check the bases and you will find out that manila gives you more points than all off manchuria and northern china combined. shanghai is an exception. your bases at home generate supplies. if i recon correctly. if the war takes to long (three to four years) the japanese player slowly runs out of them. considering this, you can generally get a sufficient lead in points by just capturing the PI, wake and Guam, Shanghai and Hongkong. After this, you can get your fleet into position.

The naval war is very different compared to witp. you do not have much air action (esspecially in 1922). The US generally gets sufficient ground forces only a year after the war starts (they have to mobilize from scratch).
