supply problem

Post by ryan1488 »

first of all love the game, great fun. however i really dont care to do the production phase and let the ai handle it. problem is the computer isnt producing enough supply and my offensives have ground to a halt because of this and i will probably end up losing the game. any way this can be tweaked or a way i can override the ai to just produce supply even though production is ai controlled?

Can you give us some more information about your situation. What side are you playing? Exactly when do you run out of supplies? We tried to make sure that the Union player would build a basic number of supplies. It tries to read the supply needs and build enough, however, even a human player can run out at times, especially later in the war. I feel less confident that the AI is keeping the CSA in enough supply later in the war, as that's a much more difficult thing to do. If you can send a few saves for a series of consecutive turns where you think it's not building enough supplies, we'll take a look. Send to 2by3@2by3games.com.

im playing as the union and i ran out of supply about mid 64.  i do have a good sized army perhaps thats it.  although seeing the ai produce all these ships and cannon when i cant build a depot makes me crazy.

i sent an email with the only gamesave i had.

When I first learn a game like this I play the first p[art (the first year in this case) and have found that later when i went the whole distance I could run out of supply due to a number of reasons.
1. a very large army will tax the system of supply especially if computer controlled. You do not need a large army to win with the north or the south.
2. Heavy losses will tax the supply system and if your army is to large it can cause a shortage. If you insist on building a large army the use the merge unit rule especially if you are the South.

You also can build factories in the first two years to increase your supply.. I can tell you that I am not a person who can play a game with a supply/production system because it is just to much for my old brain. The supply system in this game is not that hard to use. As Joel told me build max ships and supply and a couple of new factories. I do not believe the supply problem is the fault of the game. I have had this type of thing I have had nin AACW,FoF,and other such strategic level games. Try restraining yourself in building and calling for new troops, I make a call first turn and early 62 and that is it. You must keep an eyue on the amount of supply you are using, do not keep depots you do not need.
Lastly this game is not the standard of build a larger army and beat your opponent to oblivion. Building a huge army is not going to win you this game. Massing all on one region will not work well with the reaction system in place. . Keep at it and you will find the balance between supply and army size.
