TCP/IP Direct Play issues/problems

Post by Wolfitz »

Do specific ports need to be forwarded for John Tiller's Campaign Series TCP/IP Direct play to work?

Me and my friend have tried multiple options, from disabling and creating exceptions on our firewalls, and it still gives us the Direct Play error that no session was found. Please, can someone tells me what specific ports need to be forwarded for this to work.

maybe you or your friend are NAT-ed by your ISP ( your assigned IP address is translated to different addres during internet connection)

we use for online games program called Hamachi, it creates VPN, you and your friend create and joind "room" in this network adn both are assigned with IP address that you enter in CS dialog when looking for game session

What is your ISP? If you are using LAN without outside fixed IP number it won't work. That was my problem initialy. When I aquired firm IP number I even haven't had to disable firewall or so...

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help; but we still haven't been able to achieve a successful connection, we even disable our firewalls to no avail. I will look into Valor's comment, as I don't know my isp. By the way, I did find the port's for CS: 2300-2400; we forwarded these ports, and yet still we could not find game sessions, AHHHHHH.

Hi Wolfitz
How do you go about finding your IP adress ?
Do you get an address beginning with 198.blah.blah.blah ? If so, this is the "wrong" internal IP address
Go to http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ip.html and see if the address you find here is different to the one you've been using. If so then use this one when setting up the connection.
Hope this helps.

I attempted an online game as both host and caller.
I have Windows XP, my friend Vista.
No luck when I was the Modem Host via TCP/IP. Tried with Anti-Virus program both on and off.

A little better luck when I was Modem Caller. I could see the WF Session but when I tried to join I got the unknown to me until recently "Join error".
My friend had turned off the Vista firewall.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
