Game will not load beyond "organizing your files"

Post by dukehenry »

Hello all, recently received my new purchase of WITP, and went to play it without luck.

I installed the two patches to upgrade my 1.80 to 1.804 and then to 1.806.

When I run the game I do not get past the screen saying "Your Files are being organized sir" - the red bar makes it all of the way and then the game just sits there.

The link to my dxdiag file: http://www.teamsyndicate.ca/temp/dxdiag.txt

I performed a search but couldn't find anything relevant. Sorry if I didn't see something obvious!

I see you have Nero installed. It could be a codex problem. Try renaming the Video folder to No_Video and see if it will load for you. If that doesn't work, rename the Sound folder to No_sound and see if it will work. Let me know.

Thanks for the input, it is the sound directory that is causing issues.

I have tried adjusting the acceleration of the sound to no avail. Any ideas?

Thanks again

If your codec is messed up - you need to try to fix that, and that is a nontrivial thing in some cases.

You can try loading any video/audio driver updates for your board, as well as any upgrades to the codec (including NERO since you have that installed).

You can also try going to websites for your codec and/or NERO (and other programs that might effect the codec) to see if they have suggestions about fixing problems (in general).

Aside from that, you have to go the uninstall route for things that could effect the codec. i removed NERO long ago because of the bad things it tended to do to various programs... you might be willing to put up with an offending program if it is very useful.

I don't know why any of my codecs would be messed up, I have no other issues with any other apps or games on the computer at all. All drivers for my board, and cards are up to date. Uninstalled Nero since it is easy to reinstall anyway, and still no sound.

I will keep poking around. Thanks!

Codecs often behave strangely with bizarre interactions...

Good luck!!

This can be closed. I cleaned up old versions of codecs, drivers, and ran some other registry cleaning utilities, and now everything loads up great!

Thanks again everyone for all of your help!
