Command Point "Promotion" Bonus

Discovered an interesting bug while playing single-player, today.

I accidentally promoted the wrong person to army command, but had a slot open to promote another so I went to promote the "real" army commander...and "promoted" the same guy. Only, this time, when I "promoted" him, he gained more command points. I did it again and he gained even more.

I tried this with my theater commanders, too, and was able to "promote" them to their same level of command over and over with seemingly no effect save for raising their command points to the maximum with no prior battles.

Before you claim it a bug, did you verify that you were not being charged Political Points for each promotion?

Well, promoting people to Army command and Theater command doesn't carry a PP penalty, so...

Nonetheless, I did just do it again, and there is zero penalty to do so. McDowell, Scott, Halleck...all have 24 command points, now, for no cost.

That's a bug, thanks for finding it. Until the next patch you'll have to refrain from doing this (unless you want to beat up on the AI and upset your PBEM opponents). It obviously should be blocked so that you can't keep appointing a leader to the same position.

Oh, I definitely don't plan on actually using this, I just found it amusing that I could make a loser like Twiggs into a 24-pointer with a few clicks.

Beating the AI with cheat-codes has never really sparked my interest.  [:)]

Ah...I see. That's called "appointing" and not promoting. I thought you were talking about Presidential Promotions. Good catch.
