Mobile to Tuscaloosa

From the legendary team at 2 by 3 Games comes a new grand strategy masterpiece: Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Taking gamers back to the American Civil War, this innovative grand strategy game allows players to experience the trials and tribulations of the role of commander-in-chief for either side. Historically accurate, detailed and finely balanced for realistic gameplay, War Between the States is also easy to play and does not take months to finish.

Mobile to Tuscaloosa

Post by WarHunter »

The following screenshot shows a strange movement anomaly.

When moving from Mobile to Demopolis, A unit uses its movement points to reach the region. Being adjacent i can accept it.

But, The same is true to reach Tuscaloosa, no matter what your actual movement points, it costs all of them to enter that region.

The green arrow only shows up in the final region, unlike all other movement where you see a chain of arrows. It bypasses all regions in between.

I'm not convinced this is a planned movement route from Mobile to Tuscaloosa. I have repeated it with games before and after the update.

I'm giving this a thread of its own, even though its been brought up before.

Check for yourself and tell me this is not just happening on my computer.

In your example, have you tried dropping the attached inf., and moving the HQ by itself with its 8 mps?

It would be interesting to note the movement costs that way.

its just a delusion get some sleep and take a walk with the family and youwill feel much better LOL. Its odd that it works this way. I wonder how things like this happen. I remember buying one of the first games for the old apple computer on the battle of Shiloh. There wes this hex in the middle of the map if you moved a unit ion to it the unit would just disappear. WE CALLED IT THE BLACK HOLE OF SHILOH. Maybe we should start a thread in the discussion forum on strange game abnormalities we have seen.

Because the river area touches both land areas, the move is a legal move. It's an odd one I realize, but it does cost 5 MP in summer and 6 MP in winter so it's not easy to do. You're only seeing one movement arrow because we don't show arrows to the minor river itself, just to the land area (because you can't stop in the minor river). I guess the guys are getting on small boats and moving upstream before they get off in Tuscaloosa. [:)]

The same sort of thing happens in movement to/from Washington DC and Harpers Ferry. If you have a force that has only 1 MP, it will make its move straight from one region to the other, using the river. If you have a unit with 2+ MP's, then it will make a move overland, through Frederick.

Looking at the movement in the Washington/Harpers Ferry/Allegeny, i see the exact type of movement allowed down near Mobile/Tuscaloosa. It just seems strange to move such a long distance from Mobile to Tuscaloosa. As long as it is consistent i'll deal with it.

JamiAm & Joel, thanks for replies, made things alot more clear movement wise, in those regions.
