If I understand you correctly, you didn't Image

The OOB simply says:

- "This tank is available from 8/39 to end '43"
This means it will appear on the purchase screen during that time .. but you'll be able to use it as long as you wish, and even have it repaired, but you cannot buy it (or replace !) after 12/43.

- "This tank has 30 HE, 40 AP and 8 APCR rounds max."
This means that the tank will have (when fully loaded with ammo) exactly this amounts; if you turn on "limited ammo" the numbers will reduced by 1...10 rounds per slot, so maybe leaving this tank without APCR for one battle .. this will be re-rolled at the beginning of the next battle

- The OOB does not say "this tank wouldn't have APCR after 5/41 !!!
.. Maybe the game engine knows this from other (build-in) tables, I don't know.

But I don't think anything Paul wrote gives a hint in that direction.

hope this helps .. and I'm not too much in error Image

You got it Arralen!

The game only knows teh ammo the OOB files tells it the unit has, in a campaign if it started with APCR - then every scenario it will get APCR.

If you upgrade to a version that does not - then it will no longer get it - since now the OOB tells it "No APCR" from then on.

Unless you play with "limited ammo" on, than with each new battle it is re-rolled randomly how much rounds it will have, what might leave it without APCR for that battle only, right ?

Yes - it starts with the Ammo allocation the unit has in the OOB and reduces it.

presenting oneself 'oblique' was a realtime tactic so can make sense but will depend on your situation (i.e. how desperate are you? Image )

If i'm running a Tiger for example and am facing JS tanks, i'd definately go for oblique. Sure there's a chance that the shell might hit the side armor and (possibly) defeat the purpose but the odds are still better than taking a frontal shot head on with only 100mm of armor between me and that bigum shell! Image

(P.S. this tactic saved my butt on more than one occasion back in the SP-I days)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...
... I thought that in ye olde SP1 days there wasn't any modifier for the angle of incidence against armour - if a shell hit a 100mm plate it had to penetrate 100mm, regardless of what angle it hit it at.
Ot have I miss understood your message - were you tying to take on tanks which were fairly separated and trying to give both of them a chance of hitting your front plates, by pointing the tank in between them (such that the three tanks form a triangle) instead of having the front plates facing one and the side plates another ... in the hopes that both enemy tanks would hit your front plates..?
I wish I could explain myself more clearly.
