Defence Licenses COTA

Australian Department of Defence
Licenses Conquest of the Aegean

The Australian Defence Simulations Office ( ADSO ) of the Department of Defence has contracted Panther Games Pty Ltd to provide a Defence wide license for the use of their operational warfare simulation, Conquest of the Aegean ( COTA ).

COTA covers the historical World War 2 battles in Greece and Crete. Its revolutionary design, powerful artificial intelligence and intuitive user interface have seen it win a swag of awards including the Wargamer.com’s Best Wargame 2006 and Best Developer 2006, War Historical’s Wargame of the Year 2006 and CyberStratege’s Laurier d’Or 2006.

COTA will support the Australian Army Military History training program. Army members can gain a greater understanding of the conflicts through first hand “experience” by undertaking “scenarios” or battles from the Aegean Campaign.

Panther Games president, Dave O’Connor says: “We are delighted to provide COTA under license to Defence and are looking forward to an influx of new players. Use of simulations in military training has increased rapidly, especially here in Australia. There has been a noticeable increase in the awareness of the benefits to be gained from using simulations in training and our company looks forward to further cooperation in this area.”

Well, this is not very suprising. Some time ago I stated on this forum that this game (actually, a modern derivative) could be used by army comanders and staff for training exercises-I was quite serious. It can easily be used as an instructional tool in its current form.

Anyway, a hearty congratulations to Arjuna and the Panther team.

Rob,

Well we will be able to get some new hardware at long last. It can't come soon enough. I had to turn off my last surviving test machine last night as the noise emanating from the hard drive was reaching an awful cresendo. I know from experience that this precedes the death of the hard drive. So yes this has come in the nick of time.
