Petition for Tankerace to do a War in the Mediterranean

OK. All those who think Tankerace did a terrific job on WPO and that he needs to get back in the game modding business and make a War in the Mediterranean version of WPO say "aye"! [:)]

I second the motion. There were two or three very interesting AAR's going for a while on the WitM mod, but I don't think you can sustain the momentum on a game unless there is an AI for dedicated game-players to practice against.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Put me down for a yes and for a guaranteed buy if it were to make it to market.

Lotta people wanted this long ago and were severely disappointed when the world moved on to other things (including WPO).

If I see it, and the game engine is vastly improved over UV/WitP/WPO or anything else Grigsby cooks up after the various creatures in recent years I have not been tempted in the slightest way to buy (for example, GGWaW and whatever his Civil War game was called), okay, I'll consider it.

I ain't holding my breath in anticipation.

A WiR was mentioned in another related post, is this War in Russia? And what exactly is that all about?

Also, I didn't know that a "modder" was responsible for WPO. That is really cool, particularly how extensive that mod is.

Well, as usual, I'm relying on my increasingly faulty memory, but a revision of the old War in Russia game (the one you can download for free here) was said to be in the works a couple of years ago, then was shelved in favor of Grigsby's development of the area-movement system underlying his World at War game and used, as I understand it, as the basis for his recent Civil War release. I don't know that the WiR project has ever been revived. Maybe someone else has information that has escaped me...

Pretty nice, huh? People who have bought and played it like War Plan Orange a lot. I never was able to talk myself into buying it. I can't imagine how a game without significant air involvement could be any good when based on the UV/WitP system with its primary emphasis on air power.

I just can't see myself enjoying a game that depends for its flavor on surface naval battles in a system that shows surface naval battles as two lines of ships facing each other from opposing walls of a very plain room.

It reminds me of the dances I used to go to in junior high school, where the girls would stand together against one wall and the boys would stand together on the other side of the room. God help the poor sap who crossed No Man's Land to ask some chick to dance. Next day in the locker room would be murder - and worse. I did it once because I was in love with a girl named Sally, but that's a different story.

I know, I'm probably missing something great. As usual. I mean, I waited to make my move until after Carmen Electra had been with Dennis Rodman and Pam Anderson had been with Tommy Lee, and then I wasn't interested anymore.

Hi ho.

Iirc, it started out as a player mod and then because it was so well done, Matrix picked it up and devoted some time and money to getting it ready for "prime time" so to speak. They then released it as an official Matrix product. I actually don't understand why something along the same lines couldn't be done with WitM. It has limitations, mainly with the land combat scheme vis a vis North Africa, but those are no more significant than the surface combat limitations of the WitP engine were to WPO imo. I was amazed at the detail that was put into the WitM mod and I believe that given some of those very same precious resources, that were applied to WPO, that WitM could be just as nice a finished product!

I think he is kinda busey with Carrier Force right now,so his talents are being put to good use, but I would be very interested in a War in the Med, I heard thought someplace, some time ago, that the WiTP engine could not deal with it though, largely because the Land  combat model would nead a signafagant tweak, or so I was told....

Thanks for the input guys! Sorry for the delays, I've been moving. You know how that can be.

It might interest you guys to know that when I went to Joel Billings in 2006 asking if he had anything I could help with, doing a War in the Med project was his first idea. I bought a bunch of sources and wrote up a proposal, but the in the end we all felt the land combat model might doom the project. I'd still love to do it, but unless Mike or Gary radically overhaul the land model I don't see it happening. So when that didn't pan out Joel gave me Carrier force.

The CC I used is no longer active either.[:(]
