By mistake I have acquired an extra copy of Brent Nosworthy's Roll Call to Destiny: The Soldier's Eye View of Civil War Battle. Since I run TOCWOC - A Civil War Blog, I thought I'd give the book away in a contest. What's in it for me? Hopefully some increased readership and some interesting entries which will show up periodically as blog entries at TOCWOC over the next several months.

If you are interested, read the rules below, and then click the link above. The only strings attached are that you have to answer two questions about your Civil War reading in 1000 words or less and that you live in the lower 48 United States. I will be shipping the book by Media Mail at no cost to the winner.

Now that you know what is being offered, let me set up what you haveto do to win. I am going to give my readers the chance to be a bloggerfor a day. All you have to do, prior to 11:59 PM Central US time onAugust 15, 2008, is answer the following two questions in 1000 words orless:

What are the five most important books you have read on the Civil War? Why is each important?

Rules in Brief:
1. One entry per person.
2. Limit submission to 1000 words or less.
3. Submit by August 15, 2008 at 11:59 PM Central US Time.
4. One (1) winner will be announced the week of Monday, August 18.
5. All contestants agree to allow the use of their submissions as future TOCWOC blog entries.
6. Spread the word as early and as often as you would like. Stumble this, Digg it, announce it on Civil War and other forums, and otherwise let people know this is happening!
7. Since the book will be shipped via Media Mail, I make no guarantees as to when it will arrive. I do, however, promise to shipit ASAP after announcing the winner and getting his or her mailing address.

why not try returning the book you got by a "mistake" Even if it was not offered under the present conditions its hard not to see the large number of takers to your "offer".

I'm not exactly sure what you mean.  In any case, I'll be giving the book away for free to whoever does the best job of answering the questions and submitting them.  I've gotten quite a few indications of interest already through my Contact form, and the contest has been going on for less than a day.  It's too late to turn back now.  Besides, any time I've had a duplicate for whatever reason I've always offered it for free.  I gave away a copy of HPS Simulations' Campaign Chickamauga last March for the person who did the best Civil War computer game AAR, for instance.
