does/will tcp/ip work in EE?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

does/will tcp/ip work in EE?

Post by cato13 »

hi there,

havent played COG in a long time but i remember havin probs with auto trade, u would select what resources u wanted to export and import and the AI would do the exact opposite from what u wanted which meant u had to micro manage all the trade deals. was this ever fixed or will it be fixed with the expansion?

i also remember readin that there were lots of probs with tcp/ip. was this ever fixed or if not will tcp/ip be ok with EE?

are there many players who play this game online or is it mainly pbem?

The auto-trade didn't apply to single-player COG before, only to PBEM, and people seemed to expect it to work in single-player when it wasn't doing anything.  This did cause a lot of confusion, and we have already made the change so that the auto-trade applies in single-player games for COG:EE.

TCP/IP routines will remain the same, DirectPlay 4.0 by Microsoft.  There are some issues with these libraries involving dropped packets, but many people seem to be able to use them without any problems.  I spent a few weeks evaluating the migration to a new set of TCP/IP libraries, but determined that the work involved would require too many changes to the engine; DirectPlay 4.0 is, as it were, idiosyncratic.
