CTD when starting a new campaign

Post by invernomuto »

When creating a campaign (German, battalion level, East front), the game after the briefing gives a "cannot create a dxdraw object" error and returns to desktop. Single scenarios play well instead...
JTCS patch 1.03.

Can anyone help?
I noticed that only east front campaigns crash, west front and japanese ones work correctly.
Need to reinstall the game entirely?

I wish I could help. [:(] I've never seen that error message before; I'm guessing no one else has either or they would have responded. I just tried mine and it works fine so maybe a reinstallation is in order. Good luck.

I wonder if you are missing a bmp file or something, or a bit of terrain? I would try a reinstall first, you're sure you patched to the correct directory, any duplicate installs?

Warhorse,

You may be right; I have gotten a "Direct Draw Message" when I'm missing a graphics file. Then it proceeds to tell me something like "failure to create upxxxxx.bmp" and then it's CTD time. And then I've got this nice olive drab and khaki color scheme for Windows. [8|] Very annoying. I wonder if there's an easier way to change it back other than rebooting.

With XP I change the desktop theme and back again.
Conflict of Heroes "Most games are like checkers or chess and some have dice and cards involved too. This game plays like checkers but you think like chess and the dice and cards can change everything in real time."

Thanks for the infos. I tried to reinstall but I got the same error message. It happens only with my laptop (i tried on my desktop and everything works fine) and only with east front campaigns :(
West Front and Rising sun are ok.

Cannot understand what I'm doing wrong, if it were and hardware problem, I'd have the same message also with Rising sun and West Front.

SOLVED!!!

It was an issue related to my Firewall (Comodo Firewall). I disabled my firewall and I could play with East Front Campaigns and scenarios on my laptop. FW are great security tools but could do nasty things if you don't set them up correctly.

BTW,
JTCS is a little gem :) Very good interface, rules and lots of fun.
