I actually liked the one Activision made - Call to Power 1.  When it came out it got slagged off big time because Activision basically gave Sid the thumbscrew - so they made CoP, and Sid made Civ3.

Actually Activision was party to the lawsuit between AH and Microprose since they were the ones actually making titles for AH. They had to get something out of it since Hasbro was only buying the other two. So they walked away from the out-of-court settlement between AH and MicroProse with the rights to make one Civ computer game of their own (I think it was just 1 so they must have paid something or otherwise worked out a deal to later do more).

I don't think I ever played Call to Power 2 or Alpha Centauri.

Bought it to PS3, played it a few times, however a CIV game completed in aprox one hour feels like civ-lite to me. So I will keep playing CIV on the PC and let the Civ Rev lie alone on the bench.

In an hour?! How?

No way the average Civilization Revolution game is an hour. Maybe 3-4 hrs would be correct especially if your playing it correctly and on at least an average difficulty level. Not that you can't LOOSE a game in an hour or less. I've had games last 5 hrs especially with the more challenging AI levels.

you kidding? Mass out archers for defend and then start building production+wonders. But you do need some decent cities I agree. But I stand by what I said, too short, a civ light imo, but hey might just be me.

On the average difficulty, about 9 hours or so seems normal. On the hard difficulty it's taken, I'd estimate, 10 hours over a couple days to get to, maybe, the halway point. I guess I just play slow, civ 4 BTS could take up to two weeks to beat, and that's with 3+ hours a night. It may be civ lite in content, but I find it a nice balance between dragging on and still retaining fun.

It would also depend on what goal your playing towards. If you just always go for the military victory then maybe it could play quicker depending. But to go for the other style of victories is a bit tougher, especially on higher levels... since it makes it a bit harder to defend against incoming attacks.. Or the fact that you have incoming attacks at all vs being the juggarnaut/blitzkrieg attack player...

A new recruit(to Matrix).....Hi all!

my tuppence/two cents:

I'd have assumed that most people with a liking for the Civ series(particularily 4) would be a bit underwhelmed by Civ Rev. The Civ games, the Mods, offer such an involved game that Rev comes across as more of an introduction, sampler or demo.

The series has gained some terrific exposure to a new audience via the Rev release. Hopefully with it's success a few substantive turn based strategy titles might yet reach next-gen consoles.

Now as for new colonization though...
