Campaign with Less Units ?

Post by dig314 »

I just started the German WWII campaign from Sept 1939.
Between my units and support units, the battles are large.
Is there a way to make the battles smaller in a campaign ?
( Less Friendly/Enemy Units, smaller Map, smaller objectives ? )

thanks

1) Ask about SPWAW at the SPWAW forum, not in "General Discussion".

2) Read/Search the available postings before asking something for the 100th time.

3) Before even coming here, read the f****g manual !

4) Listen up: You may adjust the build points on the preferences screen. Default is "xxx" which means the game uses some hardcoded table, depending on year and nation. You may choose anything from 100 (HQ only) to x000 points (whole battalions).

Arralen,
while i can agree with you at a general level that most of people don't even bother to check the manual , where MOST of the questions are answered, i'd say that the method you chose to express this is less than fair.
We, as Matrix/Spwaw community, have always been recognized as a very nice, ready to help group by all the newcomers who ended up on these forums: your way of replying to this post is not alonge these lines, indeed...

You know, same question 2 times within a week, and than 2nd time even posted to the wrong forum ... had he posted to the right forum he had found my other answer there..

And the answer IS easily found in the manual - it's not that it is hidden within some obscure reference in the 3rd footnote of the 42th appendix.

Sometimes it's too much, and sometimes there's some poor little fellow at the wrong time at the wrong place and get's all the bashing ;)

..and I never claimed to be nice.
Really.

PS: ..and I really wonder if my posting count gets actually reduced each time I do another nasty answer ..

Along another note.
It is important to encourage new people instead of discourage. If you don't like someone's question don't read it or answer it. Matrix is having enough problems with cash flow at this time to have forum members bashing new people. They NEED the word of mouth support!

Yes the answer is easily found in the manual. But the manual is difficult to navigate and not so easy to print out. Being some 120 pages long. Not many people have the ability or the resources to print out a manual, bind it, and read it all before playing.

I disagree with your statements that "sometimes it is to much and sometimes some poor little fellow gets the bashing". This is just your excuse to vent on some newbie who made a mistake.

You could have easily left #3 out of your post.

Really, if reading the forum aggravates and frustrates you that much you should reconsider why you come and visit.

I think I did -and am still doing- quite my share of mouth support. (Keep in mind, though, that SPWAW is free so advocating it does not generate matrix that much sales after all.

Strange. My manual is an pdf file. Acrobat can search the whole text, and if you check the "Contents" page, you can even click on the page number and it will get you there...
I must admit, that while "Preferences Screen" is listed there 3 times, you may start out with "Getting Started" and find only “Command Control” and “OpFire Confirm” mentioned .. but there's a hint that the rest is explained later.
Sadly the "Detailed Player Guide" in the last pages of the doc will only mention that too, so you have to resort to the 2nd mentioning in "Changes to gameplay", what may not be the most intiutive place to look for the info.
On the other hand, whole search did cost me about 1:30 ...

and do you really think that someone who cannot cope with the SPWAW manual will by Uncommon Valor ?? I heavily doubt so !
(an Combat Whatever is still months, or even years in the future..)

I don't think that I "vent" that much on him.
After all, as simple "RTFM" is the standard usenet answer to such questions ... and I did only tell him what he did wrong and gave him the info nevertheless.

Ah, no. Hope it has some educational effect. Experienced the same when I was newbie to usenet ...

Such questions waste not only my time, but his also, and matrix' bandwith and server capacity (as the rest of this thread does :(

Really, if reading the forum aggravates and frustrates you that much you should reconsider why you come and visit.

Why I do that?
.... mmmhhhh...

1) get info
2) help those folks with real problems/questions
3) have some nice discussion about various topics ;)
