It's funny. The top gunner image reminds me of a very vivid dream I had about 3 months ago...I was top gunner on a B17 in the pacific...only things did not go well [:(]....D#$@ zero bonus.[:'(]

RE: THE THREAD!!!
-Bob DylanEverybody's having them dreams.
Everybody sees themselves walkin' around with no one else.
Half of the people can be part right all of the time,
Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time
I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
"I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours,"
I said that.
Good dreams, even if there is a Zero bonus...

Not one of Zimmerman's best. How about:ORIGINAL: thegreatwent
Good dreams, even if there is a Zero bonus...
I dreamed I saw St. Augustine
Alive as you or me.
Tearing through these quarters in
The utmost misery
With a blanket underneath his arm
And a coat of solid gold,
Searching for the very souls
Whom already have been sold.
Or, how about Randy Newman:
Last night I had a dream.
You were in it...
I dreamed about a ghost...
Everybody scared me.
You scared me the most.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

It's the Yankee Lady, of the Yankee Air museum. Not a known combat veteran B-17G, but just a representation of the Era. Markings for 8th AF, 381st Bomb squadron. Here is a nose picture.ORIGINAL: thegreatwent

Got a great shot from the business end of a B-17G. I flew on it at the Lost Nation Airshow in OH. That was a thrill!

The .50 cal belt is rather interesting. The .50 cal we use today isn't much different, but the belt is quite different.

RE: THE THREAD!!!
the belt is specific for the aircraft i'm pretty sure the standard 50cal belt is the same today as the ww2 one. cause the gun we use today is only slightly modified from the ww2 one.

RE: THE THREAD!!!
What I noticed initially was the metal covering over the front of the round. The belt itself is the same as today. It looks like that covering may be just be a guide for the belt.

Which is a pretty good idea, considering the mounting for the weapon.
